1990 Rev 1 brake leak
Thoughts, losing brake fluid but only when vehicle moving. Had a leaking rear caliper. Completely stripped and serviced. Now after a drive reservoir low and fluid around inside of wheel. So wheels off, res. topped off, pushing pedal through floor (!) cannot get anything to leak. Off for a drive, har...

[Mk2] [NA] FE Automatic transmission
Hi Folks, well the little FE's reached 143,000 miles now and I'm suspecting the gearbox may be its financial death knell. All is fine with the auto except when pulling away from standing. I get an appalling vibration/tramp and what sounds and feels like wheelspin. Once it gets going it picks up 2nd ...

There's no manual button on the Uk's but you can simply run the shifter as a manual.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] borderline rev 1?
Don't knock the auto, the longer gear range gives you much better flexibility, hold the gears in manual and be aware that this engine will run to 6300rpm (not 6 as per dial, theres a cut out just beyond that, so no worries just make sure the engine's serviced!). You'll be pleasantly surprised how fa...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] borderline rev 1?
I've run a 3S-FE for nearly four years now, tried various intake combinations. The best for performance is giong to be a K&N panel filter into the OE system. You need the big plastic resonator box at the back of the engine bay to keep up the torque at low revs, the FE has a low hp output but if ...

[Mk2] [NA] Automatic gearbox - reversing problem
The gearbox has decided not to offer neutral or an effective reverse. Everything's fine in all forward gears, o/d etc. In neutral it creeps forward in jerky movements or judders hysterically if you hold it on the footbrake. Selecting reverse the car has to be revved hard to jump back in little leaps...

Sell away from the MR2 community with an FE, look for around 1500, FEs are on traders' forecourts round my way for 1995.
Despite the enthusiasts' dislikes what you're selling is a good looking reliable runabout, perfectly happy with long hauls and good economy.

Re: Idling on an Auto N/A
Also at times when I brake it feels like there is a lag in the gears shifting down any idea? It may idle higher in P, try Neutral should be about 750-800, revs will drop if you hold in Drive on the footbrake as the gearbox is under load. The ECU wont instantly drop down gears as you brake, hence th...

Re: Message to "Men" in MPV's.
I have been considering transplanting an MPV engine into my MK1 though, because they are clearly the best engines onthe planet. No matter how fast I am going on the motorway an MPV always manages to come past me like I'm standing still. This is a two tonne brick, with 30 screaming, puking and wavin...

Nowt wrong with Federal, I'm running standard 14" and they're fine, hard wearing excellent grip wet and dry.
Look at your oversize wheels and suspension set up.

The C6 is the latest, 6.0 V8 400bhp 0-60 in 4.3s, 186 mph top.
All that fun for 45k!!! Of course like the MR2 you could tweak it, how about a Callaway Supernatural package, 7.0 litres, 550 bhp, only 33k dollars

Re: My SMART car vs your N/A
i used to love my 3sfe, dont think i could've got more than 55 in second though, atleast not without the pistons ending up in the car behind!!! Ah, the auto goes that much further, limiter cuts in at 6300, it'll touch 75 on the dial in 2nd and 115 in 3rd, however it won't outsprint a Brabus! But......

4.2 litres with filter change, although you probably wont get all the oil out.

He says he wasn't trying FULLy, but I know he was. Or at least I think so, so what you guys reckon? Well, let's think hard, he may be 100lb or so heavier, he's running 490bhp, can probably see 200mph on the the dial, and has millisecond quick paddle change, launch control et al; I take it you've so...

Re: Quick Question ... 3SFE
Why is the power so poor if it's 2.0 16v dohc? Wasnt the 1.6 from the mk1 more powerful? It's not so much poor power in the FE as very high power per 1000cc for the GE's in that era. Consider that a '91 Ford pinto twin cam gave 118 bhp and far less torque, a latter day zetec 2.0 gives 130 bhp. It's...
