My SMART car vs your N/A

Post by axisofunity »

Muhahah, kerb weight 1030KG or so. BHP standard 177bhp, standard 6.9 second 0 - 60mph, with the SMARTRUS Evil Twin remap and also the K&N and Forge Motorsport dump valve... I should be on 6.4

Yay.

:D

Can't wait to meet you on the road.

Where have u got 177bhp from?

Both my smart Coupe (or fortwo as they now call it) and my Roadster have the same sized engine but the Roadster engine is tuned to 80bhp standard. I know the Brabus remap tunes it up the over 100bhp but I swear Smart-r-us don't squeeze 177bhp. Maybe 120 tops.

Not saying your lieing, but without the Brabus Bi-Turbo (a special number of these were made) I doubt you could squeeze 177bhp from a 699cc engine using a remap alone.

Josh

PS The DV sounds nice for a while, but they're a pain in the ass in the end. When u have some more money, go for the Brabus Monoblock IV alloys (if u don't already have them!)

Hi mate, the car I've got is a Brabus Forfour.

Standard BHP from the 1.5 block is 177. with the remap EVIL and the K&N it's dynoed according to them at an average of over 187.

The stock specs are on the Smart website,

I've driven one of those when we bought my husbands Forfour. You'll be fine until you get to a corner or over 70mph.

edit: I should elaborate. I wasn't too impressed with the understeer the car has and found it wheezy at top speeds - nice pick up though and will undoubtedly give an NA a run for its money.

So your 17k 1.5 motor is only as good as a second hand "for parts only" NA.

PMSL.

For 17k I would have bought something a bit better. Each to their own I guess.

It's not even the little Coupe one?

And how come it weigh as much as that considering it's made from lego?

Haha, it's a five seat, five door car, it's going to weigh more than the two door version :D

Brabus Engine is also 1498cc rather than the standard 698cc in the 2 seat or 1l in the standard ForFour

It's got great reviews all-round and it really feels Merc Like inside in terms of trim, options and comfort. Apparently it suffers torque steer but it does manage to get down nearly all the turbo power from about 2300 revs to over 5600 (6 is limited).

0 - 68 in one gear change :/

0-68 in first gear? Or do you mean 0-68 in second?

Surely a better comparison would be with an NA fitted with a tubby engine?

I disagree and it's 0 - 67 in 2nd gear :/

It's actually pretty special :) Faster than the Cooper S, more subtle the the Type R and also better specced that the Fiesta or Focus ST aka the ASBO-Mobile.

No u chose right bud. I had a smart from 1998 when they first came out. It was also when they didn't have TT - hence why some span themselves onto their back end in snow!

But I'd have rather bought a Roadster for £10k, and then blown £2k on some stunning wheels and then £2k on engine management tweeks. I love their shape. But yeah, ForFour is much more subtle.
