[Mk2] [Generic] fitting a Tom's style bodykit

the reason i went for the toms kit is because it is quite subtle.


it doesnt make it look like a race car or drag car, it simply exaggerates and complements the mr2's lines.

to a non-mr2 enthusiast the car may look standard but look a bit closer and you see a refined and not quite normal, stunning looking car.

imediately after seeing it i bought the dvd and wanted the kit after originaaly wanting the toms border combo. ive not seen many full toms kits and this encouraged me more.

Its a great looking kit although not keen on the front bumper as can be seen by me fitting an aeroware spoiler instead.

Looks all good very precise accurate fitments with a lot of taste gone Into the choice of parts used too.Just thought how the heck did you get her so white some serious pt or a new coat of paint.

Mate I have been begging for It for years now from the owner and no amount of waving money would release It-Until now when they sold the MR 2. Just fitted the Toms carbon fibre skirts/ winglets so the carbon programme Is looking good.

ive managed to get hold of a tom's rear spoiler and air scoop now so have all the parts i want, apart from the rear centre panel....(wish i hadnt seen that now)


today ive spent a few hours rebuilding lug holes for the side skirts where they are fixed behind the rear side strip, using fibre glass matt and resin and fibre glass filler. i bought a decent resperator aswell as fibre glass dust isnt good stuff.

the side skirts now sort of fit, but theirs still gaps all over the shop.

off to get some body filler tomorrow for a better finish than fiberglass filler which is pretty rough.

will update with some pics of the damage ive done when i get chance

Toms front does follow the lines well.I really like this - want one . Always liked the Toms front since i first saw it.However,i do like the looks of the Border front v much too

ive rebuild the lugs holding the skirt under the side strip and filled the gap between the top of the skirt and the side strip......

yeah sorry haven't updated in a while.

basically been practising spraying and working on a toms air scoop recently.
if WAS A TERRIBLE FIT(AGAIN ) but i managed to get it tidy and if needed a lot of work as there was a clear join down the middle and imperfections in the fibreglass.
any way on my third layer of top coat i got a drip and after rubbing it down and respraying it i left it too close to my garage heater. after returning 20 minutes later the paint had reacted badly and had bubbled like a naan bread!
after rubbing it down and trying to filler over the seem of the paint peel i gave up and ordered a new one that would be better quality.

i also gave up on the side skirts, after manaing to find a perfect fitting set of amazing quality which just need painting.

the rear bumper isnt to bad a fit so now im a bit more experienced im actually gonna start that today.


im pretty confident with my spraying now and im ready to start doing other bits.


ive also bought a rev 1 boot lid to fit my toms spoiler too so if i want i can switch between rev 3 spoiler and boot and toms spoiler.

right time for an update.


i finished fitting the rear bumper the other week but havent had a camera to log my progress.

it just needed some shaving here and there to fit right.the bumper had no fixing points so i simulated the stock bumper lug holes using thin aliminum strips shaped and drilled and stuck with special body sealent.

i wanted the option with the whole kit to be able to go back to standard if i chose so the body parts had to be easily removable like the stock items.

i bought replacement side skirts from rmg developements, and the fit was absoloutely in credible. perfect!

i had given up on the ones ibk had supplied as they would require so much more to fit anywhere near properly.

this evening i finished the most difficult part of the whole kit. the front bumper.

after Temporarily securing the bumper to the car it was apparent the where the bumper is suposed to meet the front wings there was a very large gap. i covered the wings with newspaper and used fibreglass filler to build the bumper on to the wings.

i then began to sand this down using my trusty black and decker mouse sander till it was near flush with the wings.

after closing the front boot lid there was an about an inch gap between the bumper and the bootlid exposing a large amount of space.

after taping and covering a large amount of the frunk i gradually began building the fibreglass filler on to the covered bonnet. than after more sanding down i haD a roughly fitting bumper. i then used about 3 tins of body filer to smooth and shape the whole bumper!, this has been a very time consumng process but very satisfying. i have now done all the little adjustments such as shaping the lip where the bumper and the bonnet meet and shaping around the headlights, leaving the correct gap all around.

i would love to show pictures but unfortunately dont have a camera at the moment as i lost it at santa pod.

i cant wait to show everyone what ive done!

ive also repaired the toms spoiler i received damaged from a member of the other forum
one of the ends had been cracked and there where bits knocking around inside. i had to drill the hole larger to get them out, then fill it with loads of fibre glass filler and then use body fillers and fine body fillers to reshape and finish it. i also haD TO ENLARGE THE AERIAL HOLE AS I WAS TOLD EVEN THOUGH IT WAS OFF A REV 1 CAR IT WOULD GO STRAIGHT ON A REV 3

ive also prepared a rev 1 boot lid ready for attaching to the spoiler as i wand to be able to alternate between my rev 3 spoiler and toms just by changing boot lids and not have to worry about holes

i had to fill the holes from the rev 1 spoiler and i used aluminium backing for strength and for a base to filler on, this is now primered and looks very smooth, like a rev 3 boot lid with no holes.
