Noticed on the Brochure and spec sheet(on the website Peerke posted) that the engine is 200ps @7,000rpm.

Any idea what Toyota Technocraft did to increase the power? That's almost the same as the Beams engine? I always thought the Spider had a standard NA engine...

Those are the specs for a BEAMS engine. I've seen photos of at least one original Spider with a BEAMS engine (it's red, and a lot of the shots have the guy's girlfriend posing in them).

Would a "Black top" Beams engine from a Altezza fit into a MK2 including the 6 speed gear box?

in the Altezza the engine is mounted vertically in the front but is still rear wheel drive...Also they are a lot cheaper to buy than the "Red top".

well im building a v8 powered widebody spyder in mk1 form as we speak, the spyder bits done....lots more to do though.

have to agree with some of you,the mk2 Spyder with roof up looks fugly,it could have been styled so much better than that, gorgeous withthe roof down though.

With enough time and money, anything is possible.

The black top BEAMS engine in it's Altezza incarnation is only available with front mount components. There'd be a HUGE amount of work required to get a black top to fit, and when you consider it's only another 10PS more than a red top does it really seem worth it? The gearbox would be a non-starter as well.

Yes, the colour of the car has been changed in Photoshop. I've got another version of the same image with funky chrome effect paintwork!

I think the TRD kitted spider looks OTT. I prefer mine

Since the Beams Red top is soo expensive I think I'm gonna start looking into the Camry V6 option instead...Would that make it the only Black V6 Spider?

I found that spec. on a Spider brochure, that was with the spider when I bought the car.
And that's from 1999.
It didn't said anything about a Beams.
And I didn't had more spec about the Spider.

Mate I usually like to se limited editions kept original but despite this i have to say your car is one of the sexiest 2s I've seen in a looooooooong time. It truly looks like a piece of exotica. Couple that with a V6 wail and it only gets better. Whata lovely car. Fancy a swap?

Whereabouts are you mate. For some reason those pictures dont look like the UK?

Thanks for the compliments Boby.

I'm based in Hong Kong. Moved here from Manchester 7 years ago and used to owned a Rev 2 Tubby when i was in Manc.

Been looking into the V6 conversion but i can't find any garages that have done the conversion here before... It's a shame because there are loads of cheap V6 camry's for sale!

Planning to ship the car to Uk sometime in the near future to keep at my parents place.

blackspider wrote:Yes, they were all silver but mine had a full re-spray a few years ago.

The standard color for Spiders was silver (Alpine Silver Metallic / Code 199).
But from at least 1998, you could order one in 6 other colors (in option) :
Here are the codes of those colors. That woul be nice if you could help me to find out which colors correspond the 2 last codes ?
040 : Super White II - III
202 : Black / Black Onyx
3E5 : Super Red II / Torrid Red
3L1 : Orange Mica Metallic
4N3 : ???
943 : ???

Ps : 1998 'Brochure' : => http://www.mrtwee.nl/IMAGES/brochure.jpg

By the way blackspider, do you still own your MR Spider ?
Are you still based in HK ?
