Nobody in their right mind would bother buying tyres with 3mm or less tread.
I agree that tyres should be matched too.
By choice I would definitely buy new, but sometimes we can't always afford £400 for a set of tyres.

Mate had a visit from trading standards regarding part worn tyres,
he was quite insistant citing the regs .
The part worn must pass various inflation and tread inspection prior to sale.
Perhaps more importantly,they must be clearlyand permanently marked as
"part worn"in letters at least 4mm high.
Insurance assesors love part worns he said.
Save for matched,speed rated,quality tyres,as your tyre footprint is all that stands between you and eternity.

part worn tyres
Writing on my new supra rims read as follows 17x8 50jj on fronts and 17x9.5 50jj if that makes sense anybody. So what tyres to fit on them to fit on my Mr2 without any issues ???cheers

ET on all wheels he has bought are 50.
So just to clarify, he has:
17x8 ET50 and 17x9.5 ET50. (Standard Supra offsets)
I think he'll have problems.
Coilovers, hubcentric spacers and arch rolling as a minimum.

From MR2 calc site (based on rev2+ wheels)
MR2 (mkii) Flushness:
Your proposed front wheel will be 14.65 mm tucked in from flush
(flush offset: 35.35).
Your proposed front is 9.35 mm into the suspension!
Your proposed rear wheel will be 8.3 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 41.7).
Based on 215/40/17 front, and 255/40/17 rear, you'd be into spacers (hubcentric, and arch work)

Supra wheels seem like they arent worth the effort fitting imo, bad offsets and not particularly light either.
Also I guess they dont cost much but then adding up the price for proper spacers and rolled arches etc it might have been easier to buy some wheels with the correct offsets/widths.
I guess its good if your realy into an oem+ look I guess?

wheel fitment
I am keen on the supra wheels look on the mr2 thinking of getting tyres stretched on the rims too if that would make a difference to it over all with the fitment of them to be honest. My mr2 is in stock shocks with stiffened springs at the moment too before I try to fit these supra wheels

my mr2 is running on 18in rims at the moment too with rubber bands for tyres which I just cant be doing with now cheers

Stretched tyres would look even worse, and not recommended. It's the width/offset of the wheels that is already a problem. The correct tyre sizes for the wheels will make the problem worse.
Stock offset for a MK2 is +45, the Supra wheels are already 5mm further in than the stock offset, coupled with the fact that they're 2.5" wider at the back, and 2" wider at the front.
Spacers/arch work would be required.

Wouldnt he still contact the strut even with stretched tyres?
Tbh mate it might be easier to sell the supra wheels and see if anyone here is selling some stock 15s with tyres.

If you can't justify the cost of new tyres which can be life saving I don't expect that you'd be able to justify £100+ on hubcentric spacers and then even more on arch rolling just to even fit the alloys.
As already mentioned to fit these you WILL need arch work and spacers. You may also need to fit coilovers and ditch your current suspension. Be under no illusions - this isn't a cheap or quick alloy wheel switch.
Even if you do spend all that money the end result is non OEM fitting alloys that aren't designed for the mr2 setup and may effect your handling adversely. IMHO it's simply not worth either the cost, effort or potential risk to your handling.
Best bet - sell the alloys and spend the money on a set that fit properly. The money that you would have to spend on the modifications to fit the set you've currently got could then be used on decent rubber

Kevin, you've had some good but no doubt disheartening advice here. I would suggest you sell up and get another set.
However.
You could phone up stainless creations in Falkirk. One of the blokes there, Graydon, has fitted supra alloys to his track car. Google them and phone up, and politely ask for some advice! I know he uses spacers on them.
Or, sell the supra alloys and buy a set of alloys you like that will fit a bit better.
