Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] MR2 REV1 TURBO running issue

Thank you all for your help I really appreciate it. I cleaned everything up, new set of plugs and also cleaned the MAF sensor, and now it runs perfectly, so well I almost don't want to sell it now!!

Anyway again really appreciate the advice.

Kind regards
Will.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] MR2 REV1 TURBO running issue

Hi thomp1983 Thanks for that i have taken off the distributor cap and inside its its quite caked up on some of the points and also one of sockets that the HT lead plugs into was corroded. I have also removed the spark plugs, these dont look happy. All the plugs are rather black and I think that the ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] MR2 REV1 TURBO running issue

Hi I have left my MR2 in the garage for a while (about a year) and recently looked to get in MOT'd with a view to selling it. The problem I have is the car starts fine, warms up fine but if you try to accelerate or increase the revs above around 5000 it just doesn't rev and if you rev the engine qui...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant issue

It's a rev1 if that makes any difference, wouldn't it have muck in the oil system?

Rev1 turbo

Gut feeling is either a leak that I can't find (and doesn't show up on a pressure test) or cracked block. Just can't imagine an air lock being this much of a pain.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant issue

I apologies I'm probably not being clear As I said the issue is one that manifests it's self quite slowly so it's entirely possible once the system was bled it could have seemed ok even passing a pressure test, it's only once the car has been driven that you start to notice the bubbles and noises st...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant issue

Hi there thank you all so much for the responses. I had repaired a coolant pipe on the heating system, the copper pipe had fractured and was leaking onto the fuel tank so I cut out the cracked section and installed a section of hose so this is why I initially had to bleed the system. Once I had comp...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant issue

Hi everyone Bit of an odd problem. I had some work done recently and this resulted in having to refill the coolant system and bleed it, I did this without too much hassle making sure the car was level, filled it slowly making sure that the clear pipes connected at the from of the car were both full ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Error code 21

Must be honest it wasn't a genuine Toyota one, could this also make the idle high? It does smell a bit rich.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Error code 21

Hi Just thought I would pick the brains of the masses who have far more knowledge than I do on these things! Driving the car the other day I noticed a couple of things. First off was when I started up it idled high at about 2000rpm and then once warmed up it dropped to 1000rpm (still high I think) a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Sluggish when cold??

is there any way of testing these things? as I said the o2 sensor is quite expensive and it would be nice to confirm its dead before I replace it.

Regards

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Sluggish when cold??

Hi everyone I have checked the ECU error codes and it threw up the code number 21, according to the error code list this is the O2 sensor? Anyway I also carried out and ECU rest and this has cleared the error code but I doubt that it will stay corrected. Also (mainly due to being a bit thick) I coul...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Sluggish when cold??

HI everyone just wanted opinions on an issue I am having. My car (a 1990 turbo) starts fine in the morning but when I start driving it as you accelerate the car hesitates and produces very little power, it doesn’t buck around but it just doesn’t accelerate, as soon as it has warmed up its much bette...

Hi all, lets see if I can word this a bit better :-) How much would expect to pay for a standard 1990 MR2 Turbo T-BAR 65000 miles plus cambelt done in really good condition?

Many thanks

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] intermittent boost

Hi :) I may have found the problem, I fitted a boost gauge (just temporary plumbed in just to see what the car was doing) and the car would not boost more than 10psi, so after checking lots of hoses and MBC fittings I tried another run and it still wouldnt boost more than 10psi sometime it wouldnt g...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] intermittent boost

Ok scratch that idea, I will remove the MBC from the system and see how it goes. . . . . . . . . . but I dont know how to do it. should I just pull the pipes of and the join them together to take the MBC out of the loop :?
