[Mk2] [Turbo] Error code 21

Just thought I would pick the brains of the masses who have far more knowledge than I do on these things!

Driving the car the other day I noticed a couple of things. First off was when I started up it idled high at about 2000rpm and then once warmed up it dropped to 1000rpm (still high I think) and it felt a bit lumpy and sluggish at slow speed and low revs, better once the revs built up.

I did an error code check and it came up with 21, with a bit of research and past experience I know it points to the oxygen sensor (it did this to me a while ago and replacing it helped) but now 6 months on it would have appeared to have failed again.

I appreciate things can fail but its 6 months old and makes me think has something else caused it to fail?

Has anyone else experienced this and is there something else I should be looking at, and are the high revs part of the issue???

Was it a genuine Toyota/Denso O2 sensor? I've known of cheap ebay ones to fail prematurely.

Must be honest it wasn't a genuine Toyota one, could this also make the idle high? It does smell a bit rich.

Your symptoms suggest O2 sesnor not working.

You can check by using a scope or analogue voltmeter.

You can buy a new Denso sesnor for £40. Exact same sensor as Toyota will supply you.
