Re: Repairs to Rusted Out Front Floor Box Section - with photos

Thanks N!co, I'll do that. I've bought a Sealey automatic welding helmet for £55, that's cheaper than the £70 sale price, and it works fine: - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=110348000054. It makes welding far easier but I must say that the weldi...

Re: Repairs to Rusted Out Front Floor Box Section - with photos

Thanks for the positive comments. The welder I use is a Cebora 130 mig welder connected to a pub gas CO2 bottle via a regulator. I bought my last sheet of metal from Supertune in Oldham who are wholesale paint supplier for the motor industry so I would think any specialist paint/body panel supplier ...

Repairs to Rusted Out Front Floor Box Section - with photos

I bought my car last spring, as an ebay punt, and like most without any real understanding of the inherent problems. Now 9 months on I’m almost an expert in comparison. I removed the engine, stripped it down and put it back in last year. I’m now repairing the A and B posts and rear wheel arches by w...

Re: car trailer needed North West.

I think you can hire one from Fletchers in Ashton-Under-Lyne (east side of Manchester) if you can't find anything else. They do weekday and weekend hire when I last inquired.

I see what you mean now. Silly me. I'll look more carefully next time. A 1a in 1989, blue seats with black dash and a light blue instrument surround???? Thanks.

Unusual Colour - Metalic Red 1a ???

Just thought I'd say I’ve just noticed this 1a on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=300286365337 It’s an imported tin top with air con. It looks to be a metallic red and the ad states it’s a standard colour. I think it looks great but also th...

Re: Rustproofing hobby

Waxoil is funny stuff. When its cold its solid wax so I’ve found it best to do that work in warm weather. I think the instructions state to warm the Waxoil before spraying but I’ve found that if you shake the container the Waxoil emulsifies and can be sprayed quite easily. I use a paraffin spray gun...

Thanks Paul for the advice. Bill H’s “how to”: - http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=121 is really good and he also used Datsun Cherry wheel arches. I’ll be doing the same me thinks.

Which of the Cheaper Rear Wheel Arches are the Best Fit?

Hi All, I intend to replace my rusty rear wheel arches over the winter months and I’m wondering which of the cheaper wheel arches are the best fit. I’m not after a concourse finish but for it to look tidy. I’ve heard that Datsun Cherry 3 door and Toyota Corolla outer arches and that Mk3 Fiesta inner...

Re: T-bar seals - Mr T only?

Hi Tony, Brill “how-to” guide. I’m in the middle of resealing my roof now. Found that the black central spine for the roof panels to lip under was held in by nothing. All 4 bolts securing the spine to the car body had all broken and all screws were almost rusted away. The spine looks like it’s made ...

Re: engine knock

I tried to separate the two alloy castings by undoing the cross head screws underneath but they were seized and I rounded off the heads #-o. I then held both sets of butterfly valves closed and welded the knocking bits together. Problem solved - no knock but will have to source another T-VIS if the ...

Try looking at my posting "Loud tapping noise from induction system" on second page and currently 4th item from bottom. View the youtube vids to see if it sounds like yours. My problem was knocking butterfly valves - vid also on youtube.

I’ve been wondering how many MK1s there are left in the country

I’ve been wondering how many MK1s there are left in the country. I see many on ebay as being sold as MOT failures but are these being renovated and put back on the road or broken and scrapped? Recently I’ve noticed that there seems to be more priced up in the £k’s and advertised as being minters. I’...
