T-bar seals - Mr T only?

Post by milli »

I'm assuming Toyota is the only place I can get new T-bar seals (MkI), but before I spend all my pocket money I just thought I'd check there isn't another supplier anyone knows of? £250 + VAT for the pair at Toyota.

Thanks

I have heard of importing them from Mr T's abroad (america etc) works out cheaper due to the exchange rate.

Just a word of warning though, dont expect it to cure a leaking t-bar roof, 70% of the time it wont, fingers crossed for you though, Jinxy

Why is that? seems an odd comment to make without any supporting statement of what is the likely cause. You may as well of not bothered to post.

Can't be as good as your fuel fumes fix, I know - perhaps my expectations have been raised!

Have tried eccentic guides, treating the rubber, silicone etc - new seals is last attempt at improving the problem. Can't get any worse, so gotta be worth a go.

Real answer is that the leaks aren't so bad when moving (if I go fast enough, Constable), so I just try to avoid parking outdoors in the rain, or put his cover on. Would be nice ito fix it properly though - people shake their heads at me in that "it would be kinder to have him put down" kinda way every time I turn up with a soaking wet right elbow!

Sorry Jinxy if my reply was a bit 'sharp' but that write-up is brilliant. I almost wish my seals were leaking just for an excuse to do it

Jinxy - Thank you again ....perhaps it WILL be as good as your fuel fix now that I have pictures to copy! Will do as you suggest before putting the new seals on, so fingers crossed that should do a decent job.

Alan - As a special favour so you don't feel left out, I'd be willing to let you do the work on mine instead!!

Ouch! About 13,000JPY per side over here in J-land, which is around 70 quid each. I was well pleased to find that out. But they could only get me about half the number of screws I needed for the rails.

Still leaks a bit though  but it looks a million times better than the silicone sealant sandwich the previous owner left behind.

My spare car leaks so bad I've hit the brakes and ended up with my feet underwater :)

Still out with the floor bungs and it drains away, it'll live like that for now :)

I paid £80 a side from Toyota last week for T-Bar seals... Seemed quite reasonable to me!

Hi Tony,

Brill “how-to” guide. I’m in the middle of resealing my roof now. Found that the black central spine for the roof panels to lip under was held in by nothing. All 4 bolts securing the spine to the car body had all broken and all screws were almost rusted away. The spine looks like it’s made from stainless steel so I don’t think my mig will work to weld them back together again. I’m going to drill and bolt the spine to the body after applying Seamseal CV sealant. It’s a caravan joint sealant that never sets. I’ve used it before on my caravan and it works well to keep water out. I’ll let you know how I get on. By the way the 18 No plastic clips and small round headed screws cost £25 from Mr T  .

I’m now thinking that it’s likely that all T-bars will need their roof resealing if the condition of mine is anything to go by. Can I ask that you put your instructions somewhere others can easily find them on the site please.

Many thanks for posting your guide again.

Barrie.
