1988 AW11 Sunroof, Red
Greetings, I need to go down to one AW11 from 2 so I have to sell one of them. I am offering an MR2 in need of new arches. I have already done a ton of welding to repair the sills so ideally I'm looking for a buyer who is looking for a car to fix up. The car currently has some things like a Jimi thr...

Yet another dumb oil filter question
Greetings, I've ben searching the board for information on mk1 oil filters. Mr T just sold me a 90915-YZZJ1 which from my search results state at least one person on the board is using, yet the box states: "Engine Application: A series (exc. 4A-G series)". I took it back and pointed this o...

Re: My first Mr2
Also, pleased be advised that it is normal for a mk1 to idle at over 2k when you start it so it depends on how insane your idle is as to whether you need to fit a choke kit.

Re: Exhaust at short notice.
I have my elise backbox but I can't get the studs undone and my mechanics are messing me about regarding fitting it. I've been pushed back to next week so I am going to attack the small silencer with aviation snips and try and shut it up. I can see through the hole in it a pipe full of little holes....

Re: Exhaust at short notice.
If it'll fit without me having to modify the rear of the car i'll go for the elise one. I can pick it up midweek if I can arrange that: I'm working evenings so I can either pick up midday or 9ish depending on the day and how long it takes and if that is convenient. If it is a pain I can delay, but d...

Re: Exhaust at short notice.
Sounds good to me. The elise one is tempting. How did you find using it? My exhaust gaskets come into Mr T on Thursday so if I visit before then you will hear me coming from right about when I pass by horsham with the racket the car is making. I am wearing earplugs in the car right now as it is utte...

Exhaust at short notice.
Greetings, My DD decided to die so I've put my MR2 back on the road early so I have something to commute in. The exhaust then promptly decided to have the first silencer explode and the car is now making a horrific noise. I have a magnex front pipe that I can replace this with, although I have no ga...

Re: The 'alternative' 5th gear fix
Bah, I'm using a bungie rope around the centre console at the moment, it is not too hard to lift it over the stick and I already have another box ready for installation.
We could try out the long 5th mod on the old one afterwards...

Re: Knocking sound OSF
Wow that last post I made from my G1 was pretty unreadable. Fault turned out to be something really dumb: just one wheel nut had come loose. The slightly warped disc shaking it around must've done it. Still, car gets put into storage saturday week so replacing the discs can wait...

Re: Knocking sound OSF
st haok, i jud the arb mounts welded up to pass the mot so it was recently disturbed. ites sounds like the knock happens as the wheel rotates though... the wheel seemed to be free when i jacked the car up as well, i didnt see anything stuck in the caliper when i did that also. I will doublecheck thi...

Knocking sound OSF
Greetings, Today I started to get a wierd knocking sound as I go along. The front discs are sligtly warped but I am barning the car for the summer soon so am not in a hurry to replace them. The slower I go the more noticable it is. Turning and braking seem to stop or reduce it. I jacked the wheel up...

Re: Grrr.... someone just killed my Mk1
I was going to recover my K&N just in case I don't get it back, but I seem to have binned the stock airbox so ditched that idea. Was the K&N declared as a modification ? I think so, but I can't remember 100%. Even if it wasn't, I don't think an air filter would invalidate a claim, it's not ...

Is there any to cut it open, weld them up, then put it back together again?

Re: Head Gasket is gone! What now?!
Another vote here for fixing before scrapping, I ended up swapping the engine though as my head was not just a little warped but propper fooked. There was more exhaust coming out of the coolant cap than out of the exhaust pipe

Replacement gearboxes
Greetings,
Does anyone know where the best place is to get a decent replacement mk1b gearbox with a good 5th gear from? This is the south coast area. I suspect the 5th gear has already been replaced once and this is on an 170k mile car hense me looking at getting a secondhand box.
