Exhaust at short notice.

Post by sadako »

Greetings,

My DD decided to die so I've put my MR2 back on the road early so I have something to commute in. The exhaust then promptly decided to have the first silencer explode and the car is now making a horrific noise.

I have a magnex front pipe that I can replace this with, although I have no gaskets for it, and the backbox is also pretty knackered and it appears that it is about to die anyway so I might as well change that at the same time.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get another backbox? If someone on the south coast happens to have a spare one in their shed that they want to get rid of please let me know.

I have an old piece of exhaust pipe shoved into the magnex front pipe so I can connect it to a regular exhaust but it would be nice to get that connected up to something decent. Since magnex apparently went bust ages ago, or at least went that particular incarnation of magnex did, can someone recommend a good place to get something made up that would work with that.

While I am on here, for those that know about the red car I keep in that barn in Fordingbridge I'm going to sell it. I'll get the details up properly when I get my membership sorted out (paypal is doing wierd stuff).

If you can get up to Gatwick I have a standard exhaust you are welcome to. :thumleft:

Or if you fancy something a bit different I have an elise backbox converted for mk1 use, not free, but cheap.

Sounds good to me. The elise one is tempting. How did you find using it?

My exhaust gaskets come into Mr T on Thursday so if I visit before then you will hear me coming from right about when I pass by horsham with the racket the car is making. I am wearing earplugs in the car right now as it is utterly deafening...

The elise box isn't any louder than stock, maybe a teeny weeny bit deeper, I only went for it as I prefer the symentrical back end.

I'll be away this weekend but can leave the standard one out for you if you like.

Drop me a PM and I can give you my details :thumleft:

If it'll fit without me having to modify the rear of the car i'll go for the elise one. I can pick it up midweek if I can arrange that: I'm working evenings so I can either pick up midday or 9ish depending on the day and how long it takes and if that is convenient. If it is a pain I can delay, but driving in ear defenders is gonna get me pulled over sooner or later :D

I have my elise backbox but I can't get the studs undone and my mechanics are messing me about regarding fitting it. I've been pushed back to next week so I am going to attack the small silencer with aviation snips and try and shut it up. I can see through the hole in it a pipe full of little holes. Does this continue all the way through or are there baffles in it? I was thinking about filling the holes up with gun gum and plating over it as a repair until I can get the exhaust fitted.
