World's fastest supercomputer, PS3 CPUs of course!

Post by Goto10 »

They clearly needed the highest performance possible, therefore out of all the consoles available they opted to use Cell CPUs, as found in the PS3.

Wow. Perhaps one day they'll make use of it.

I see there's roughly the same amount of games available for it too...

I actually just took the time to read the link.
Wish I hadnt, how boring!

Fact is though, 13,000 processors being fast isnt exactly a testiment to the PS3 being great.

One day, I might buy a game for mine.

It is, considering the previous fastest super computer had over 212,992 processors!!

212k inferior processors though.

You would expect that every time they do this they would use the latest one out.

Back to my original point though, still hasnt made use of it IMO.

It's a bit like having a million horse power and limited to 20 mph.

Part of me thinks "sell it and buy a standalone bluray player" but then I keep thinking "eventually something is gonna make owning it worth while"

It's been nearly 5 months now though ](*,)

GH3, GT5, MGS series not a good enough reason then?

Admittedly the blue ray is one of the only reasons i managed to get her to say yes

Already got Guitar Hero 2 & 3 for the 360 & it was cheaper...
GT5 - wouldnt spend £300 on a console just to play 1 racing game that I WILL get bored of in a matter of weeks. They're all the same, no matter how pretty.
MGS - havent played any before it and again, it's just 1 game. I might have a look into it sometime admittedly.

The bluray player really is the only use I've had out of it so far. Oh and normal DVD's as it upscales to 1080i. Although the 360 does now I have an HDMI model. But I'll stick to the PS3 for that as it is queiter and I have a remote for it.

Boring, same old stupid debate rearing it's head again. I now have both consoles, both are good but I play the 360 most because it has the better games.

Or 90'000'000 360 CPUs ;)
Doesn't change the fact they chose the superior CPU :p

Do us all a favour and sell the poxy thing then, I've read countless posts with the same content about how you don't like it!
I might buy a 360 and then just continually post about how I've left it in the box and might not even use it - but then on the other hand it's making quite a good doorstop so I might just keep it for a bit longer.

It gets plenty of use! Just not for games. Any way, it's the same old argument for it. "it has the best chip blah blah" Not many people give a toss what's inside.

Built from 13,000 of the Cell processors first used in the PlayStation 3 console, teamed up with nearly 7,000 AMD processors designed for desktop computers,

AMD processors doing all the work no doubt....
