[Mk2] [NA] Rear bumper spray cost

Post by ski »

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I have searched for a while and not found owt.

I was looking for advice on painting bumper dings.

Basically, someone dinged the bumper when parking - then drove off like the typical cowards round here - leaving the paint all cracked & scuffed around the nearside corner of the rear bumper. There does not seem to be any structural damage or cracks to the plastic, but can someone tell me:
Do I get the whole bumper resprayed?
Does anyone know an approximate cost?
Can anyone recommend a decent bodyshop in Cornwall who could do this?

Until this morning, we had an immaculate '96 model in Caribbean Blue :(

its very likely that the corner will just be blown in , but the whole bumper will be laquered. i dont know about prices down south but i would charge around £200 here up north

£200 is a joke. Here in the midlands it's around £100 per panel or bumper if you avoid the dealers.

the people who come round and paint bumpers scratches etc are called smart repair ! this s around the £100 price but thats fine if you want sub standard materials used for a quick fix only ! without getting technical its basically acrylic paint and laquers. you can achieve a satisfacory finish using smart repair (acrylic) but it has only a limited life span. it doesnt have the same finish as 2k paint and laquer that is on your car from factory. smart repair blowings are restricted to keeping the paint very localised. in other words , if ski had his bumper done by smart repair they wouldnt take the bumper off, and would paint the bare minimum. ( cost efective if your selling your car ). given just 3months you would be able to see the blow in, and it would look milky in comparison to the rest of the bumper. for a quick job using 2k paint and laquers for the £100 price can only be cheap bottom of the range materials ! its like anything , you get what you pay for !!!! just bare this in mind ski , the cheap way is not always the most cost efective . especially if you need to have your bumper painted for a second time . for me to do a job like this , it would cost me £100 in materials, and useing the spray bake oven !!! i would have to use an apropriate filler (for plastics) i would have to use plastiszer ( special adhesion for primer on plastic) 2 k primer , then bake it. flat the bumper down , paint it , laquer it and bake it !!!! where are you gonna get that for £100 dawolf ?? i would love to know. good luck ski, hope you get it sorted m8 :thumleft:

got most of my car done as said before over 3yrs ago £250. Its also black and you definatly cant see its not original.

Best bet is ask around your area see what people say about the painters reputation.. If you see mercs / beemers high end cars there chances are they arnt that bad if you see cheap cars then walk away!!!!

If you lived nr Birmingham i could get a 100% job done on that for approx £100..

Rule of thumb up here to re-spray a bumper or a single panel is around the £250-300 mark.

just took a job on yesterday, its a bonnet off a nissan sx 200 thats been painted in a 3 stage pearl. the bonnet is stone chipped . i will have to put paint on the front wing tops to make sure of a perfect match. ok , so the paint /pearl and laquer comes to £ 197.45 before i even started.
