[Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
hya,i have a rev1 g-limited imp and when i recently removed the drivers seat i found a black box fastened down to the floor.its got electrical wires connected to it,but does anyone know what it is and whats its purpose?
Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
no idea.
cant see anything in the manual.
follow the wires, could be an alarm unit or part of an alarm unit.

the wires come out of the black box and go straight into the carpet and out of sight.ive got a clifford alarm put on and its workin ok,i just wanted to know wat the hell this big black box is under my seat lol
Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
big black box you say?
hmm maybe its not an alarm then.
have you got a sub behind that seat too? could it be an amp?

does it have toyota on it? the clifford parts are clearly marked.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
is it making a ticking noise with a countdown on it?

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
if it looks OEM, it is most likely the radio reciever for remote central locking
(an Option)

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
have you 2 lines in the windscreen if so it is the amplifier for am radio signal
mine has this
& the amp is always bolted under drivers seat hope this helps.
.
.i also have remote central locking from factory
& this reciever is behind the dashboard not under the seat

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
I have never seen a non-Japanese windscreen without the AM aerial.
And I've only seen one MR2 with the OEM box under the seat
- that was the reciever for the central locking.

Are you sure you are not confusing the central locking relay box that is behind the dash RHS?
I guess there have been so many factory options for the Mk2, it could be anything anywhere.

hya guys, thanx for the replys etc,iv got two lines coming down the windscreen which id already ben told it was for the radio&iv got remote central locking as standard.just cheked it again and it has a toyota logo sticker on the bottom, but the rest has been worn away.the actual box is held down by a strap with velcro on it if that helps any1 decide what its for?many thanx for your help etc
Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
unplug it and see what stops working

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
Does it look like this

in which case it's an amp for the stereo I believe.

If it looks like this

then it's to do with the remote central locking.

hya bud its the top pic.so im guessing it powers my head unit then,or was it powering the original sub that was behind the passenger seat?
Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
thay look like stereo wires to me im going for amp had nightmares ref those poxy wires lately.
had to have my stereo fitted as i could not work out wire configaration and had to have my amp bypassed

Re: [Mk2] [NA] box under drivers seat
The active system amps are behind the side panel trim.

The
'Premium Stereo' was a popular option.
.
.
Toyota would not just sling an amp loosely under the seat!

Why would an Amp have an aerial connection?

My money is still on a remote control application.

paul.
