hi chris, good to hear from you again mate,i remember talking to you at JAE.

.

.

regarding engine conversions the SC conversion is not in the same league as a mk1 turbo, they cost roughly the same but the

£ per bhp ratio is much better with the turbo and of course the skys the limit when you want to increase power whereas the SC tops out in well modified form at well under stock 3s-gte power.

Ive driven more SC's and mk1 turbos than anyone else in the world and although i find the SC's are very quick cars they are lightyears behind a well sorted 1.5.Maybe you could blag a passenger ride with one of the TB members cars?

If you remember your tubbys power but also your mk1's handling, combine the two but add the equivalent of 80bhp more in the mk1T for weight difference

(we worked this out one day, you'd need 80bhp more in a stock mk2 turbo to keep up with a stock mk1 turbo based on their weights),it really does give the best of both worlds and is becoming a very popular conversion.

If the SC is your bag i personally wouldnt convert a car,id rather buy an original SC but only in manual form, the automagic versions are woeful.

The labour cost of a 1.5 is

£1500 plus parts and however cheaply you manage to pick up the tubby donor clip, most people are building 1.5's for under

£3k.Of course theres good brake upgrades that match, the best one being the st185 twin pot conversion i discovered a few years ago, take one st185 caliper, unbolt your old caliper, bolt the new caliper up onto the stock late spec mk1 disc, job done.

.

.

.easy as that and this will upgrade your brakes enough to the same spec as a mk2T.

The best way is to do the research and think about converting the car yourself, sounds scary but with all the help there is these days on TB its not so daunting and it will save you

£1500 in the long run

Lots for you to think about mate, sorry SC owners if you think im trashing your cars,im not,its just

£ for

£ the 1.5 is in a different league.Given the choice of a highly tuned sc at say 190bhp

(this will cost significantly more to achieve than the conversion itself) and a mk1T thats capable of being tuned to well over 400bhp

(for probably the same cost as it would take to get an SC to 190bhp).
