It could be a fuse which would be under the glovebox I should think.
But it could be the gas and as yours is rev1 it will be the old style gas which is illegal to sell.
I think you can have the system modded for not "too much" to accept it.
I need to sort this out on mine sometime but it's low on my priorities now.

TBH mate I have no idea which fuse it'll be.
If you open the fuse box (I've never actually looked myself) it might state which ones are which on the lid.

Hi Paul

The fuse for the air con is under the front hood. As you stand at the front of the car looking into the front luggage area to the right hand side by the suspension-top you will find the fuse-box. Press the tab in and hinge the top of the fuse box open. In there you will see some relays and fuses. I think as you stand by the front left-hand wing, looking at the fuse box it's the red(10amp)fuse.you can tell which fuse it is from the diagram printed on the top of the fuse box- says " AC " or " A/C "

Let me know how you go on matey as i have exactly the same problem :( but my fuse is ok.

Open a window, then do the following...

Bin it. It doesn't work properly, and it's too heavy. :eye:

Don't know if this is any use to you, but I recently bought a Rev 3 Tubby with a/c which didn't work :( . Pressed a/c button and the light came on but nothing else happened, no compressor kicking in and no cold air. Bought a can of R134a from Halfrauds and put some in, bingo, the compressor starter working and I was dropping about 2 degrees with aircon on :D . Continued to put more gas in whilst keeping an eye on the refrigerant sight glass and I'm now dropping at least 6 or 7 degrees with the a/c on \:D/ . So maybe your refrigerant level is low ?

Agree its nearly always the problem. Trouble is he can't use r134a as a 1990 car will defo be R12. In which case it needs converting to something else, this bumps the cost up of course.

Have you checked that the air con drive belt hasn't snapped. This has happened to me recently. All of the lights on the control panel still light as if the aircon is working but obviosly no cool air.

Thanks Lads for all your kind input!

ok i will try all your advice when i get back home friday!

Call me thick or somthing but what is R134a? how do i/what do i need i.e tools to put it into the air con system? how much dos it cost?

When i got my MR2 i got the air con converted because the gas had gone/run out. that was 2 half years a go!

thanks

Unless its already been converted and refilled beforehand.
Anyway of checking?
The air-con in my Rev1 is poo.
If its already been converted I'll refill it, if not then I'll rip it out.

R134a is the refrigerant or "gas" in most modern air con systems (ie post '93). Yours is or was probably R12 refrigerant - but you've said it was converted so I'd presume the conversion would be to R134a ?...couldn't be certain about that...anyway, if it is R134a and it's just a top up you need then you can get cans of the stuff from the xxxx at Halfords for £20-£40. Dependant on what you get, the can contains about 300g-500g although I think the aircon system needs about 800g to fill it from empty. Find the low pressure valve on the aircon adjacent to the spare wheel and hopefully marked with an "L" (not the high pressure valve which is nearby). Connect the can up and discharge the refrigerant into your system - be careful the refrigerant can burn you. I took my chances that I didn't have a leak when I done this and I was lucky otherwise it might have been a waste of time and money if it just leaked back out..
