i feel like general statements like this aren't helpful. there would be an ideal AFR and getting as close to this as possible would be preferable to just running super-rich. getting a Power FC and having the map smoothed out is a good way forward (as I've just done - post to follow ).
I would say leave the ecu unless you are going for forged and turbo etc.
What's the point of sacrificing the safety of running rich for the sake of 10bhp at most.
297bhp on standard ct20b is good on anyone's book and is enough to deal with 90% of cars on the road
