1998 MR2 G-Limited (VVTi)

Post by nikk1877 »

Hi folks,

I'm selling my MR2 as 'spares or repair'. It's a 1998 G-Limted with the
3SGE Beams VVTi engine.

It's has gradual coolant loss from the overflow which suggests a pending head gasket failure. Around this time last year I had the coolant changed and bled with a new thermostat to rule out air locks. I also had compression,
leak down and a sniffer test. The results were inconclusive.

Compression was approx. 175psi across all cylinders.
Leak down was approx. 6%
No hydrocarbons were detected in the coolant.
The car does not overheat and has never overheated but this is because I maintain the coolant level.
Thers is no coolant in the oil or white residue under the oil filler cap.
It drives as normal with no perceivable loss in power.

Regardless of the above, coolant is still being forced from the overflow.
The first 250ml is lost quickly under load then it will settle to gradual loss.

General condition and spec:

Mileage is currently at approx. 124000km
Corrosion has started at the rear of the sills and on the drivers door (see images)
The car has had panel repairs/replacements at some point (Frunk lid, driver side air scoop). Probably in Japan. If it has happened in the UK, it's been unrecorded/not been done through insurance.

Aftermarket Parts:

Phoenix's Power Header
Phoenix's Power exhaust with down pipe. (blowing at elbow, can be refurbed with stainless sections)
Unbranded de-cat pipe.
Stainless intake pipe.
HKS MAF housing with air flow straightener.
Unbranded K&N style cone filter
NGK Iridium plugs.
Brash Boy Apex Power FC with hand commander (modified Altezza SXE10 unit with bridge harness and additional coolant temp sensor in top radiator hose)
TRD front & rear engine/gearbox torque mounts.

BC Racing RM Series - Type BH inverted coilover with front camber plates
FR 5kgmm RR 8kgmm.
Wilhelm Raceworks geometry correction kit. (partially fitted - rear arms and drop brackets)
Tein Tension Rods
Megan Racing tie rod ends with bump steer correction.
Super pro poly bushes (fornt & rear lower arms and trailing arms, front arb)
Whiteline 20mm rear arb with poly bushes
Cusco front and rear strutbraces.
OEM droplinks all round.

EBC redstuff pads
CRN slotted and semi-drilled discs
HEL stainless lines.

Volk Racing GT-U FR 16x7 ET35 RR 16x8 ET35
(1991 vintage) cnetres are perfect, (barrels need refurb)
10mm hucentric spacer at rear to clear calipers.
Uniroyal Rainsport 2 FR 205/45 RR 225/45 (Good tread all round)

Raybrig headlamps with Phillips bulbs.

It's had a recent refurb alternator and offside front caliper from Camskill.
Cam belt was done at 100000km
I didn't keep much in the way of paperwork but you'll find all the parts are their and were fitted circa 2011/2012. Inspections welcome.

Test drives will be performed by me unless proof of fully comp insurance is provided.

The car is currenlty taxed until September 2014 and MOT'd until March 2015.

Price: £750 - Absolutely no offers.

Hopefully someone can make good use of the parts on their fast road or track build. Perhaps a DIY mechanic can fix up for some cheap fun.

If you are interested, please contact by PM and details can be exchanged.

Car is Located in Falkirk.

I once came to a neighbour of yours, Andrew's, house to change a clutch and do some drop links on my first ever SW20. I remember seeing this parked up and I remember he told me there was something tidy about it. It's also the only one I've ever seen in this champagne colour.

Years later I owned a Beams car myself, an absolutely loved it for a year or thereabouts.

This is an absolute xxxx steal at £750 even if it comes with half the parts on your list  it makes a lot of sense to break it for bits, but I hope someone sorts it out.

Thats a bargain, even with the rust and engine issues. Its just a shame I cant justify having two mr2s sitting around. Love that colour.

Looks like an awesome project for someone with the time and space :thumleft:

As a rev5 import, why is there no passenger airbag on the dashboard?

Agreed. Seriously under priced! You could get that for the rear lights, wheels and rear spoiler alone!!

why do these things always come along when I've got my money tied up in something else... I would have had this in a heartbeat, best of luck with the sale, I can't imagine this being around for long at that price...

Hi people,

I didn't expect this level of response. There are now a number of people interested in the car. I've replied to do all PM's and will try
to keep this as fair as possible.

Thanks,

Nick.

Think it's because it's too cheap Nick, you probably paid more for the wheels and tyres than you are asking for the car, good luck with the first viewer :)

Not surprised at the amount of interest this has acquired, but it's a beautiful car even with the minor issues, so you have a PM from me :)

Toyota call it Beige Mica. Yes, beige like old peoples trousers or hipsters chinos, lol.

Anyhoo, car is now sold. Cheers.
