[Mk2] [NA] Yet another alternator problem!! Rev 3

Post by Caz »

Trying to change the alterator, got a new one with the oval attachment but now I can't seem to get it to fit into the pivot bolt mount, is there differences in the sizes? I hadn't seen it mentioned before. It seems to be mm's but its not fitting. losing the plot with it!

Any help would be greaty appreciated!!!

There is 2 further oval types as I remember:

1) large for automatic NA's and turbo models

2) small for manual NA's

Either that or your supplier has mistakenly provided you with a Celica alternator.

Caz - on the alternator bracket there is a fitting which is meant to lock against the alternator when the pivot bolt is tightened. It is on the outer (non-threaded) pivot hole but on the inner face. This fitting is usually seized/rusted in place.

There are two ways around this:

(i) Remove the bracket. The either lever or push the fitting out. And/or

(ii) File down the lugs on the alternator slightly. Half a mm will do.
