japspeed + de-cat db level?

Post by afennell »

Has anyone measured the noise of a japspeed with a decat on idle and at 4k?

I think Jeff measured the noise, dont know if it was at 4k revs but I think it was something like 112db (this might have been on idle) I think he posted it in the General section or mechanical somewhere

Someone asked me about the one I have for sale at the moment.

This is what I said........................

"It rattles my door knocker and the radiator (its abit loose) in my living room on idle.

It sets car alarms off on my street if I drive off at more than 2500rpm and you cant have a conversation with somebody in the passenger seat of the car if you are doing 70 in the motorway.

My wife estimated that she could here me coming from over a mile away in a built up area"

Shameless plug for my for sale advert, I know, but the above reply to a question about my exhaust is all fact.

oh, i already have one after replacing my old goose.

The reason im asking is i'm looking at doing more track days this year. I had no problem with the goose but it's looking like the the jap speed may be a problem.

May have to change to a blue flame, or othe quiter exhaust, hated the sound of the goose it seemed to resonate through the car and my head.

I think it was more of a pop from the unburnt fuel exploding but I get small pops made by the exhaust when slowing down with the revs falling

How long has yours been on? I think the more sooty inside the better for pops someone was saying.

If you lift off the throttle (over run) and slow to ~10 MPH, you should get a burble type of popping. If you come off the throttle at higher speeds, when you next apply the throttle you should get a bang of varying loudness depending on revs and duration of over run. Sometimes get it during gear change too, but less often. Can be pretty loud

Motoria + SSQV = + lots of people pooing their pants

love the look of the motoria

ive took mine off to sell though as its just too loud on my NA :( I had thought about having it opened up to put more wadding in to silence it, but at the £180 i was quoted, it cant be justified!

Dam it, I just want a free flowing exhaust that is not too load.
I did go in a 2 with a blue flame and i sounded fine, although that still has it’s cat in place, i suppose that could make a big difference.

I do love the Japspeed and find it more comfortable and even quieter then the goose when driving at 70mph.
Hopefully it can pass noise restrictions or I will have to look at getting a bung.
