[Mk2] [Turbo] sparks out of exhaust & bad proformance

I was pulling away of a roundabout, got about 100 yrds down the road and car started to kangeroo & proformance was less responsive & sparks were flying out of the exhaust!

car is drivable No warning lights & engine still ideals & run fine, just alittle hesertant on proformance!

Any Ideas on wot the problem could be?

does it still ahve the CAT fitted? It may have broken up inside, there was a thread on here not too long back with the same symtoms.
When I first got mine the performance was really poor after about a week or so of owning it, and I already had a decat to fit, so I swapped it over and my cat was loose too and starting to break up.

Thats the first thing the garage said but had looked and confirmed there is not 1!!!

Any other ideas?

Exhaust wadding come loose and getting way too hot causing the sparks. Blocking the pipes and causing a lack of flow which would explain the performance issue. Had it happen to me before.

turbine wheel grinding itself to death on the inside of the turbo housing?

Cheers how can i check the Exhaust wadding? also if it was the the turbin wheel grinding wouldn't that be a a constant spark flyer until it finaly craped up?

i aint much a mechanic!!!

if the wheel was out of sync the shaft might start wobbling when the revolutions increase ie on high boost. But yeah your right the turbine wouldnt last long and if the sparks made it all the way down the exhaust and were visible out the back of the car thst would be some serious grinding going on inside the turbo. lol

ignore me i was just being stuipid, might be worth pulling off the intake pipe and checking inside the turbo though shaft play/wobble, spins freely etc.

More likely the exhaust wadding as mentioned above though

Yeh will take alook tho! aint sure if its an engine fault! as seem to sound sweet a nut still! U can still here the turbo wining up nicely!How would i check the Exhaust wadding?

what exhaust are you running?
would probably have to remove the exhaust to check it properly and if its the stock exhaust i cant see how the large rear silencer could be checked. I think there's steel baffles in the stock silencer these have been known to collapse over time.

Na it aint standard! but Make is unknown as its all in Jap! came over with it on!

Will take alook 2moro & go from there!

left it with garage! for the day! they check all ignition parts & they were about to put it on the computer system they started motor up and it was running sweat as a nut!

Garage was total puzzled! anyway tested on computer showed No faults at all!

Since collected car bk is driving as normal!

Only thing they could think of is that water had got into the ignition parts!
