[Mk2] [NA] Dead Battery....AGAIN!!!

Post by Mathias Destiny »

Right, this is my first technical post so hope I get things right. I've searched around the forum, took note of all the threads and tried the obvious checks and fixes, the battery itself, the Alternator, faulty wiring, fuses, relays and so on but to no avail. I'm fixing and repearing a number of twos but I just can't figure this out.

The problem is, I charge the battery over night, and without fail a day or two later its dead. It is a brand new battery in there too, the second one in fact.

Any other ideas? really narking me this one. Cheers guys :thumleft:

what is the drain when your car is off ?
measure it and start disconnecting till you see the amp drop

Shouldn't be too difficult to sort out. Start by:

Establish current drain at battery with ammeter.

Pull fuses one by one and watch the meter..... Remember you have 3 fuse boxes..

Right, thanks guys. Battery is on charge and I'm going to head out there with ammeter in hand and let you know what I find.

Thanks :thumleft:

Switch the car off, open the door and close it, do the electric windows still work. That was a major drain on my car as they shouldnt be active after 30 seconds or after opening a door.

OK, disconnect the positive battery terminal. Connect your ammeter to the battery post and the battery lead. This will enable the current to flow through your meter and into your car's loom.

CAUTION: Do not allow the battery terminal to touch any part of the car. AND Do not run any electrical circuits as most meters have limited ability in measuring current flow.

Now check the meter reading. A residual flow is normal, e.g for the clock.

Start removing the fuses one by one, and check your meter each time. Take a note of any fuses that when removed cause a reduction in current flow.

Report back here with results for further assistance.

Hi guys,

New battery, fuses pulled, result is no drop in current and the problem is still there.
