I only purchased an original XBOX early last year for the emulator/media centre perks and for those alone it is fantastic piece of kit (shame the pads are crap and you have to place it out of view as it looks a mess but the fan makes sure you never forget you're using it)

Piracy is the only reason behind the 360's success and the new firmware allowing you to "install" and play games from the HDD is a well timed addition to help sales over the festive period. That should take less than a day to hack so you don't have to have any disk in the drive. MS should just send out free data cables and throw in a years subsription to a newsgroup of your choice to download the iso files direct to the 360's HDD

its already been proved that once the game is installed to the hdd the game only reads from the disk once/twice at the start of the game and once its been read the disk can be removed but u can still play that game as much as u like even after returning to the dash, however u have to put the disk back in if u restart the xbox BUT give it a few weeks and u wont need the disk lol

Have MS employed the team behind the HD Loader for the PS2?

I'm not sure that's true tbh, out of the 10 or so people i know none of them are running backups, also the sales charts usually have the 360 outselling other consoles (taking wiifit out of course)

So, the new Dashboard then...

How the hell do I download it? I was expecting a prompt or something from MS when I turned the 360 on, but there's nothing.

its not true at all. the 360 out sold the PS3 2 to 1 this month cos of the price drop.

and like you say, most games sell on the 360 2 to 1 compared to the ps3 versions. you can check the charts to see that.

ekona, they dont release all at once. they stagger it over the day and dont normally start till around 2pm PST.

edit - update goes live at 2am PT and 5am ET so i think thats about 11am here?

Not suprising as theres almost 2 360's to every 1 PS3 according to UK hardware sales which is likeley to swing more in the 360's favor over crimbo as Sony have said they won't cut the price yet.

The ps3 is too expensive to really be a massive seller, even the die hards have to admit that.

I only bought one because I had a reasonable bonus this year, otherwise spending £300 on one would have been well out of the question.

I know fully well the 360 cost about £300 when released but back then there was no Wii at half the price to rival it. Infact there was nothing short of a PC that could touch it and they cost twice as much!

Sadly for PS3 sales, having the £129 xbox or £179 Wii option now is going to hurt their sales for quite some time. Especially with the "credit crunch"

Althogh saying that, the Wii will be totally sold out by next week so it'll be a 2 horse race come Christmas lol.

XNE is out.

start your xbox and go to settings and get it to check the xbox live connection.

when it does youll get the upfate.

bit sneaky but it works.

takes about 1 minute to download too!!

edit - theres another 4 mins of downloading when the console reboots. and be sat down, theres a cool video to watch!!

edit- H3rb whats wrong with the new friends list? looks ace and you still have the blades if you want. jus press the ring of light.

the mini blades work perfectly and i like the quick launch options.

the new friends list is ugly as hell and the market place is really nasty imo. avatar customisation is abit lame 2, ALOT of the stuff is clearly stolen from the wii EVEN the damn sounds when it gives u a choice of base models to modify.
i still prefer the old blades by far and really think they should have made the new dash optional or even made it as a new type of theme, amature programmers can do this with the xbox 1 (team black bolt's xbmc) so why couldnt the "pros" at ms

Hmm, I might deny the update for a while and get more reviews.

Sam seems the only person who is impressed with it so far.

because the beauty of Live is that everyone has the same system.

hows the new friends list ugly? even if you do hate it that much, just use the old one on the blades.

Herb you are the hardest person to please; you obviously have very exacting standards! Life must just be a string of disappointments. ;)

Win 1.5 million on the lottery and you will be annoyed that it wasn’t 2 million! ;):D

Just a thought, I wonder how many people there are out there that dont have access to XBL that are still running the original dash?

fair point. dont think it will effect them much though as the dashboard is mainly about the online side of things anyway with the market place and party mode etc.

i wonder if all new 360s come preloaded with the new dash?
