mate what bad luck. still dont despair, fight the claim, its her fault and the insurance should repair your car back to its original condition. you can get plenty of valuations and confirmations of condition from officials on here. At worst it should be bought back and repaired. as long as there is no chassis damage its a cheap(ish) fix. check for any distortion in the floor, around the suspension top and at the bottom of the screen. I think you should be ok.

They will Cat C that and its a real pain to get the car back on the road. They Cat C'ed my car for this....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/un ... C00018.jpg

I only got offered £900 due to the bump in my front bumper and condition of the faded paint work. They basically look on autotrader and see how they are fetching. I brought the car back for £50. I was planning on a full respray anyway and the guy was surprised i wanted the car back.

Being a Cat C it need a VIC check which cost £38 then an engineers report before any insurance company would touch it again costing £110. Plus repairs to the rear arches i'm left with a couple hundred and the car still needs a respray.

Again, thanks for the replies...

I think I will buy the car back, depending on how much they want. Even if it's not easily repairable, it's probably worth breaking, though hopefully it won't come to that. If I get it back, I'll take the wings, bonnet, bumper etc.. off and see what's what, and how bent it is. I'll factor in the costs of getting it back on the road pending a Cat C to see if it's worth it.

Wayne, why do you think I'm not 33? I've been 33 for at least 5 months :)

Spoke to the insurance company and gave all the details, not sure they all got through 100% as he didn't speak very good english ](*,)
I did get the address to send my photo's and statement to though, so will get that in the post tomorrow.

They're coming to collect the car soon (or so they claim)... If I buy it back, should I try to prevent them taking it away, or will they bring it back?

Cheers,
Jon

They take it away for inspection and usually leave you a courtesy car. Mine went of to Derby and was returned within a week as i wanted to buy it back.

If you manage to prove it's not your fault, didn't I read somewhere that its your right to insist that you vehicle is repaired to pre-accident condition at the other insurance companies expense, regardless of cost to them?

Jon,

Sorry to hear your bad news. If the car does get written off and you want to sell it then please get in touch - it could live again as an MR2 Championship car, and I can put you in touch with a potential buyer.

Cheers,

Patrick

I'm offended by your insinuation Tom.

If you read what I put again, you'll see I'm not looking to turn a profit from Jon's misfortune - just put him in touch with someone to whom the car will have a value. As it happens, someone who was equally unfortunate enough to write his mk1 race car off earlier this season.

I took Tom's pictures as a jest, LOL. If I decide not to buy it back myself, I'll give you a call and see what's what..

Thanks,

Crikey, it was a joke Patrick.

Anyways I'd hate to see an ex-Leech car end up as a race car. They all get bashed about sooner or later. The damage doesn't look that bad and therefore I hope it gets put back on the road. That's all.

Excellent result.... just spoken to the independent witness, very independent, he lives in Wales and was on holiday!

He wrote down what he saw happen shortly after he left the scene, in case I contacted him. He said that it was all her fault, she just turned across in front of me, and there was nothing I could have done. Excellent :)

I know what she'll try and say, she'll probably claim that she wasn't parked at the side of the road, she was waiting to turn right and I overtook her.

Neil also suggested that if she contests it (though it's not looking good for her now!), I can do a bit of CSI and measure the width of the road, get the turning circle of her car, and prove that to be broadside across the road in the position she was in, then she must have initiated the manouvre from a position right up against the left hand curb, not a position you would be in when there's a whole filter lane there for you to use.

Fingers crossed....

I was going to recover my K&N just in case I don't get it back, but I seem to have binned the stock airbox so ditched that idea.

Will keep this up to date with the latest developments....

Jon Mate

If you are repairing it i think i know a car with all the parts you need on it and in white.

Let me know what you need and i can see what the guy says. The parts are good and car is only off the road as to much welding required underneath.
Top part is spot on :thumleft:

Sorry to hear about that, really annoying when it's not your fault. Looks like it may well be repairable to me. Insurance won't do it, but if you haven't bent anything the suspensions tied to it's got to be worth a go.

Right guys? It's all bolt on round there.

Coulda brought it to Stoneleigh, we might've have had it fixed in a day. :D

Best of Luck. Fingers are well and truly crossed nothing important's bent.

Yep its all bolt on. I've only recently got mine back on the road with very similar damage. Mine was caused by debri on the A14 causing me to nudge the central reservation.

Provided there isn't anything structural then its fixable. There are a few white ones being broken at the mo. Main expense would be the bumper bar. You'll need a large hammer, grinder and some time.

A lot of people have jumped on this as it fully appears fixable. Having done near enough the same job on mine even I'm tempted if you were to get rid :D

Was the K&N declared as a modification ?

I think so, but I can't remember 100%. Even if it wasn't, I don't think an air filter would invalidate a claim, it's not like they actually make the car faster. Insurance companies usually only care about things that affect the performance, the K&N just makes it sound faster!

Sorted now, stock filter replaced. It was only a panel filter anyway, managed to find an old spare stock one.

I've heard of people who have had claims invalidated for painted calipers. I wouldn't risk it. Good to see you have found a suitable replacement.

I rebuilt when I crashed mine, took me a while though...

Got the first offer from Zurich today.... £850 [-X

Just putting together a letter and some quotes to justify £1500 (what I paid 4 months ago + new brakes + windscreen + new T-bar rubbers.....)

The buy back offer is 20%, so depending on what the end figure is it'll be aroudn £200 to £250. I don't want to fix it myself, and it's too good to break for parts really. If anyone wants it to repair then please pm me.
