Fuel rail fuel leak ! help

Post by TC »

Have just finished re fitting a replacement engine and started her up for the first time tonight. Started first time \:D/

But I found quite dramatically I had a fuel leak. :(
Leaking from the bolt (with the orange dot in the pic) which is attached to the top of the fuel rail.

Hard to see if any where else but was quite allot of fuel collected on the TVIS unit by the time I turned off so possibly leaking from underneath the rail somewhere.

This bolt was on tight so tightening did not stem the flow.
Should there be some sort of gasket here? Also it seemed to be under allot of pressure in that it was hissing and bubbling away. Now that could be ok as I know it needs to be under pressure but was also worried as I had problems getting the injectors in ok.

Any one help with what I should check.

Yes, you should have copper crush washers both above & below the banjo fitting with the bolt going through the middle of them otherwise it will certainly leak, quite common to miss these during an engine change, dont worry too much, either a good car parts shop or Toyota parts dept should supply new ones & they wont cost a fortune either, but may save your engine going up in flames. Incidentally, did you replace the injector seals too ? if not its worth doing this at the same time, many a car has caught fire due to missing these inexpensive but vital rubber 'O' rings, again Toyota for these :thumleft: , good luck, Jinxy
