Really looking forward to seeing how this comes out! I was wondering though, where did you get your air scoop from after? Been looking myself and it's a ball ache to try and find a decent one at a decent price!
Cheers
painted the boot lid for the fourth time this morning as i was having problems with my gun spraying flecks and other crap from where id used etch primer(high solids primer).bit of overspray as it was hard to see as id already painted the panel in colour coat...
i did the side skirts, winglets and all the side strips aswell. i found the skirts really easy to paint after sorting my spray gun out. ive managed to get a really good smooth finish on them and they will hardley need any cutting back...
just the two bumpers now
just finished fitting.......thought id post some pics...
dont know what to say really. the colour match was dissapointing . especially at front where the rest of the cars had a clear coat . i am being a perfectionist, but i had maqde every effort throughout the whole process to do it properly to the best standards i could personally acheive .
the paint store obviously didnt tone the paint down even though i'd given them a body panel
lesson learnt
the most fun part was the final polishing of the body parts and seeing the quality of the finish i'd acheived, then putting them on the car knowing theyd fit perfectly! im particually pleased with the boot lid which was from a rev 1-2 car, which i filled all the holes on including where the badge goes and completely resprayed it to a perfect finish
just needs a bloody good clean and polish now........
and ive got a toms spoiler and scoop to spray and put on, but i need a break.[/b]
looks a great job youve done. botched mine a bit with aerosols .is the colour 040 super white ? fancy doing my rear spoiler ? will pay you and postage etc? let me know.peter
If you put plenty of paint on you can always flat it/buff it back to a good finish - I did this lip with aerosols :-)
Always buy the aersols from a paint factor instead of Halfords etc and they will make upo the exact colour for you in a decent sized can and then warm the can in warm water before spraying - it expands the propellant and makes it spray better :-)
hi when i sprayed the spoiler i coated it in laquer afterwards for the gloss finish . i cut the whitepaint back with 1500 grade paper then laquered it then compounded it with farecla. colour is way off. The laquer has discoloured the finish. did you use laquer? and is there a paint factors online that you know of .ta peter
laquer wll slighty tint the colour of the paint. my bonnet and front wings are laquered which is why i didnt get the perfect match...
take a body part to a good paint shop and spray a part in the paint they gave you, then compare it to the car in SUNLIGHT.
to be honest as my paint spraying improved i had to rely on cutting and rubbing the paint back less and less as i could get a gloss finish just from the way i applied the paint, took alot of practice but saved alot of time and rubbing bk!
you should be able to get a really good finish with just cellulose paint, what mr2's were originally painted with. i wouldn't bother trying to spray with aerosols else your never get a professional finish, hire a compressor and buy a cheap hvlp gun and get practicing, but wear a mask! and dont get it on your skin, cuz it burns!
and remember, ITS ALL IN THE PREPERATION!!!!!!
never rush and prepare to take as long as it takes to do a proper job.
