Excellent day and good to put some more names to faces.

For once we could enjoy a full day on track and socialising which we can't do much anymore on the BaT events.

I was also very happy for a change not to be a moving bollard. I think I only got passed 2 or 3 times the whole day

John - absolutely gutted for you :(
Only glad I could help 8)
I am also very happy that you decided to continue on with your day and hope this knock doesn't put you off for future events 8)

BookaTrack uses a lot of instructors that have an excellent track record and are highly competent & recommended. I think that if you were out with any of them, you wouldn't have had the incident. As we were explaining at dinner they really evaluate your experience and capabilities *before* going out on circuit and don't try teach you something you are not totally 100% capable of or outside of your comfort zone.
I would still recommend instruction at future trackdays. Jo & I still take on tuition from time to time and each time we learn something new :thumleft:

I am going to be doing a little writeup for MR2 Only.
Is it OK with people that I use the pics posted? (I forgot to take photos  )

I should probably state that the accident was 100% my fault. I wouldn't want anyone's reputation to be called into question on here.

Although I'm a complete novice I was the one pressing the pedals and turning the wheel. It was a simple case of 'driver enthusiasm' exceeding 'driver ability'.

I think I should have just not put so much faith in the car and someone else's line round that corner; a mistake I won't repeat now I have a much better idea how my car handles.

To be fair to the instructor, I probably came across as a much more capable driver than I actually am. I'm generally ver smooth with my car control and I was heel and toeing, not feeding the wheel, controlling slides adequately (most of the time!), keeping reasonably consistent braking and turn-in points etc. However, I'd not done these things at those speeds before so I should probably have kept my speeds down until I was happier, more consistent and more proficient.

Essentially although I may not agree in hindsight with what he was advising me to do, there was only one person in control of my car and I've learnt from it.

Most importantly it's fixable and I still managed to have an awesome day! :)

Hi
Great to meet some new faces, and put face to names etc. :thumleft:

Cool to see another Gold MK1a (after we sprayed ours). I LOVED the wheels - they go soo well (apart from the diamante thing going on - youhad to see it to understand LOL)

I didn't get to meet any other MK2 peeps apart from the tubby boys parked in the group, but saw a black mk2 parked away from the rest of us. who were you?

i loved the day, and it was great to have to opportunity to chuck the mk1 around without worrying too much about spinning and causign trouble as there was so much room to play(no spins for me though, just few bits of sideways fun)

The airfield i thought was okay for run-off TBH, and the scenery incident was really unlucky to travel that far to hit anything substancial (sp?)
Hope you can get it sorted son John

I had a blast chasing down the hot-hatches, and LOL at their 3 wheel antics round the corners.
The blue caterham i passed, but the 2 or 3 yellow cater-striker - westfield thingies were much quicker (and so they should be). one was bike engined and sounded cool.
Towards the end of the day i really went for it and tried to keep up with one of the yellow cateraham-type i let past. He seemed to be trying too and at one point we both went well sideways out onto the back straight - he took out a cone and i had a tank slapper! Chatting to him after he said he had a good laugh at us both when he saw me sliding too in his rear mirror. He was impressed that he didn't leave me for dust. After 2 laps he only gained a few car lengths, pulling away under power on the straights. We both came in then under checkered and i had a chat. He had a v-tech 2litre in it. I think i need to get a track toy like this.

Got home around 10:45 after a lovely meal - thanks Ben for organising this for us.

Thanks Phil for letting me have a drive in your MK1 :thumleft:
Your hard work has paid off, as it feels realy nice to drive, and the seats are well-comfy in comparison to using mine with a cushion

Tango is still in the household as a current car  8)

Crikey, does it come out often? Definately keep an eye out for it in the future.
Thanks for the black tape, I got home with no problems, and I strangely enjoyed making a temporary number plate. I felt like I was a kid again.

oh - i didn't realise you had an 'off' too :(

I clipped the chicane but luckily didn't damage anything apart from a scrape that will pollish out.

Looks like yours may come out too without a respray

the lad with the black turbo had not heard of imoc he does not use the internet much. i have met him before up there and once again i forgot to take a heat shield to sell him ](*,) . the bloke with the yellow caterham came over to me to see what engine i had because he could not pull past i wound him him telling him it was 150bhp after a look of shock and told to f off in a nice way. i told him the truth which he was happy about he had the r1 engined version cost 12k so i was more then happy. it wasent till i was out of my car i could here his car and it sounds awsome.

The tyres were already dying and the intention of this track day was to kill them off.

that was my second off of the day, first one was coming onto the straight between the hangers, the back stepped out i managed to catch it and went off roading, the cone paint came from me spinning while braking for the 'dippy' corner, going across the grass backwards through the corner cones and ending up parked on the track with a stalled car, all good fun and the battle scars just add to it :D

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Easily done there - I did go in a couple of times too quickly and ended up running wide to where all the moss was.

Cheers, nice clips :+: I think I had your Dad in as a passenger for those laps - after following the stickered Fiesta for two laps I was getting bored that he wasn't letting me past - and the language I was using was getting colourful.

Maybe I should have used Garrick's approach to let them know I wanted past.

Great pics and vids people :thumleft: I'm not sure I've seen my car actually moving before as I'm usually the one driving it!

Just took it to the bodyshop Scott recommended and the guy reckons he may be able to get it sorted for around 500 quid :)

That bloody bush bent the rear control arm virtually against the subframe!

John, I've got some of your '2 from that session where I was following you - which I'll encode and upload later today.

Good to hear you've got a good quote for fixing it :+:
