Ok, we'll agree to disagree :thumleft:

Hopefully, the City will sell shortly as I have a few interested parties. When it does, I'll give you a shout :D

Just to add to the description (and also revised on eBay) - the car will now have a new alternator (remanufactured or genuine, depending on the price difference) since the existing one just seized on me.

If the BIN price is met, then I will also have the timing belt done, since I'm going to be faffing around in that area.

And yet more new information!

I've been offered a tidy, good 85,000 mile Citroen XM estate. I want this car, I'm waiting to see how tidy it is.

I expect the price to be around £1500.

So.

What I will do, if I get this offer confirmed, is remove the radio from the MR2 and offer it without the radio for the cost of the XM as it stands now (it needs an alternator and belt). So if the XM costs £1500, I'll take £1500 for a 1997 MR2 T-bar with leather and factory radio, needing an alternator. If you give me the alternator, I'll have it fitted!

But no dithering, no waiting for something else to sell, no pxs. I'll be back in Hawick on Wednesday and removing the radio/fitting the new one, since clearly people aren't prepared to pay so much for a '97 MR2 regardless of condition. I thought I was giving the radio away, tbh, hell, I thought for £2K I was giving the car away.

The eBay listing is still running and still valid; if someone hits it for £2395 the radio goes back in, the alternator is repaired and the timing belt gets done. I know what is better value at the end of the day, but I guess the demand for a nice mid-engined open-topped sports car just isn't there ;)

Looks like a great car, I'm waiting on the insurance company to let me know what they're going to do with mine as some bint drove into the side of it on Saturday. If they refuse to fix her and make a settlement offer I may well be in touch and see what we can agree :)

Shame about your car; hate it when they do that sort of thing. I've got a couple of offers basically sitting on the table, including one with a BMW 5-series V8 estate and cash my way, but he and I are probably both keener to see the car sell and money change hands!

I'll be replacing the alternator this week. (hah, clearly I didn't - I was far too busy sadly)

No-one's bought it yet.

I just put a deposit down on a C6 for delivery in two weeks, I'm ordering an alternator this week, and surprisingly that I've got the car ordered up means I feel under LESS pressure to sell the MR2.

I do have enquires, but geography is a bit of a headache.

If I could guarantee that your MR2 doesn't sell, I'd try sell my City for a quick £1500 and buy this :D

But, I'd hate to sell the City for a loss and then lose out on this too

I'm still very interested, Richard :D

The market is just very, very slow, at the moment :?

If you had something cheap and shedlike with a long MOT and Tax worth up to £500 I'd take it as a tradein. Something like a Fiesta diesel, or a Citroen ZX, that sort of beast. My ex's Fiesta is nearly dead (P-reg diesel) and she needs a replacement, I could swap her a tradein car for her 2CV project and sell her 2CV!

Okay, just had a poke around the alternator - here's a new offer for people. Be quick.

£1700 with all the audio gear but needing the alternator replacing, buyer figures out how to move it. I don't have time to faff about with this and access from above is rather tricky, from below seems hampered by annoying things like driveshafts which probably move when jacked up.

I've got far too much on my plate to deal with this car and I'm now getting sick of the sight of it. If no-one is quick though, I'll get a mechanic to look at it and that'll be it off the market for a month, as I'm going to be away and busy.

At this rate I'm wondering if it might actually be easier to just grab a spanner and start selling everything I can unbolt from it

Oh, and the driver's door central locking behaved today.

No. To remove it would take at least 3 hours and the whole point of practically giving the car away is to not have to think about it or spend any time on it. I had offers of £1700 for the car WITHOUT the stereo equipment, but I've been too busy to fix it, I'm sure they've lost interest, and I don't have time to deal with it now (and won't until September).

Who'd have thought selling a nice, clean, reliable until the alternator went and late-plated MR2 in a good colour in summer would have been so difficult. I'm quite glad that once this is done I shouldn't have to try selling another 2nd hand car for a few years.

Good luck with yours too! I am wondering if my old remark about selling MR2s on the owner's club is a bit silly, but even on eBay I got interest from people who appeared to be as far away as possible :/

This still for sale?

Is looking more and more certain by the day that my mk1v6 will be leaving for Ireland on Friday

The plan was to buy a reliable, cheap and economical runabout to use for a year or two...

But I am mighty tempted by this.

Has the alternator been remedied yet? I dont' have a problem with fixing that (have done a rev3 turbo alt before and could do a mk1's alt with my eyes closed!) it's just getting the car back up to Edinburgh to fix that might be an issue - although I do have AA cover ;)

Where is the nearest train station/bus service to edinburgh to you?

If you definitely want the car based on the description etc and just want to collect it, the nearest station to Edinburgh is "I'll give you a lift". I'm 50 miles away but if someone were coming up/down from anywhere, the nearest station is ALWAYS 50 miles away from here.

If you want to see it, there's a bus stop at the bottom of the road, Hawick Horse, which is on the X95 route. The alternator hasn't been done, I only got back up to Hawick yesterday and today has been spent cruising around in the C6 on familiar roads to get the feel of the car (it's working, no longer feels like I'm trying to pilot an aircraft carrier).

I've had a couple of enquries about the radio lately but I'd still prefer to sell the car as is, especially as after this week I'm off to Florida for a few days.

I can't believe this deal!! This is the car i was looking for all along, but I couldn't wait and bought a red rev2 instead. #-o

Fight you for it Colin, hehehe.

I just read through the thread saying to myself the whole way, should I buy this too?? Had the v6 not been put into my current car - I would have ripped your arm off for this car! Although I'm pretty sure if I'd done that you'd refuse to sell me the car :-k
