I don't like my knob, it feels funny

Now I have your attention

Apart from the fact it's loose, I just don't like the shape of the gearknob, the protruding front shape annoys me.
I drove a Mk1 a short while ago that had a slightly tapered but predominately cylindrical one that was much nicer.
There's a similar shaped carbon one regularly on fleabay (item 150264667519) but too blingy. I could turn one up
from some ally bar but rather not as I did one for a 325 BMW I used to have and found it to be bl**dy freezing in
the winter.

So where can I get the ideal knob for the old motor ?

Hmm... The smiley didn't work in the title.

TRD do a lovely ball type leather knob

Alternatively, take a while wandering round a scrap heap and find one with the shape you like. Then send it to Rhon and you can get it covered in leather for some ££ :thumleft:

Problem with these is in the summer they can get too hot - especially in a T-Bar an in winter too fri88ing cold

Each to their own ETC...

Personally I would never touch another momo gearnob as long as I live. I bought the 'famous' ball type one for my MR2, I think it cost me £40 or thereabouts. 5 months later the 'chrome' had completely flaked off revealing a dull metal ball of roughly brown/brass look. It was frankly terrible, it was just chrome paint and I've not got super acidic hands or anything (quite dry actually) but the damn thing just gave up it's coating after so little use.

And my momo millennium wheel, while much much better (main chrome on centre is still ok) shows 'rust spots' and minor flaking on the 4 small 'chrome' bits that clip around the leather wheel part... (see pictures in my gallery for a clearer idea - it's fairly new in the pics though so you can't see it)

I like the short shift one looks and feel wise up above but if the finish comes off as easy as the momo one did then I'd not bother.

And btw I love the std mk1 nob, it felt much better than the momo ball did once I put it back on and realised which side my bread was buttered.

Problem i find with the standard one is it was to long and the 2nd gear throw was to far back. This noe doesnt get that hot or cold, not as bad as the metal one in the VTS.

Wow that's shocking/surprising. I hope you claimed on your warranty

Out of the 3 steering wheels and 1 gear knob made by Momo, we've not had any quality issues whatsoever.

But I agree with you aabout the standard gear knob - I find changing gear so much easier in both my track cars with standard shift and knobs. Our SC which has a TRD shortshift and the Momo knob is very notchy and I just don't like it :-:

Ive tried your SC one and something aint right with it. The ebay one i used feels just as smooth as the standard gear stick.
