[Mk2] [Generic] claybar session! looking sweeet *PICS*

Post by jimGTS »

after a bit of advice from todd, i got a few products to clean up my paintwork....am AMAZED at how glass like the paintwork feels, ive only put 1 coat of wax on at the moment, my arms/hands are dead....but has come up really well, ive NEVER seen my paintwork so well!
on some of the shots, you can really see how well its come up!

guess its hard to see in pictures, but in the flesh, and to feel the paintwork with your hands, i personally can see and feel the difference....
that claybar took off alot of crap you cant really see, and it has made a difference.
sure its always been in pretty decent nik, i just spent a good old while over the last couple of weekends briniging it back to how it orginally was 16 years ago.

it is more glass like, and you can see how it reflects the grass in some of those pics, almost mirror like...its not 100% perfect for sure but to me its better

Meguiars claybar, about 3/4 of a block, used with Meguiars detailer, Meguiars polish, and Meguiars gold class wax....
with new microfiber cloths.

just started playing with clay and some generally higher quality cleaning products, like you say jim, the difference in the flesh is amazing, really worth the effort to bring the look of your car back to life =]

Car looks sweeeeet by the way...

Should be doing a full wash/clay/polish/wax/seal session on mine once i've finished my uni course in 4 weeks! will do a full method report as im sure it will benefit someone! maybe?! 8)

Looking very good. One of my jobs atm is to clay the TRD - did it on my old yellow turbo and the difference it makes in the flesh is bl00dy amazing. Hard work though! I've used the Poorbohys stuff who was affiliate on here...

Jim, i can understand your happy with the results. Ive been using and selling clay bars for a few years now. You just do not realise what contaminants actually bond to the paint over time.

A little tip,you did right to only apply one coat of wax. The reason being you need to leave the wax to fully cure and solvents to evaporate away for about 24-48 hours before the next coat otherwise applying a second coat will just remove the first.Even when fully cured you will still remove a tiny amount of the first coat especially trying to layer a wax with polish in it like the Gold Class. If your getting the cleaning bug then i strongly suggest you invest in a carnauba paste wax that has no abrasive qualitys. You will see the difference again and the paint will be left looking wet like you just ran the hose over it. You could go with a sealant if your looking for durability but personally i love the warm wet looking glow that Carnauba waxes give.

Jim,it depends how much you want to spend. The car care industry is full of wild claims about there products so you have to be careful. You can pay as little as about a fiver or as much as into the thousands of pounds for Zymol Vintage or Royale.

Personally i would stay clear of Zymol as they are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to making wild claims IMO. How any company can justify a price tag of over a thousand pounds for a pot of wax is beyond me.

If you have a look on http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... otect.html the Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory wax will take some beating on a black car. Ive seen it used in the flesh and it gives a gorgeous shimmer to the paint just like its name suggests.

Of course there are cheaper alternatives but the Blackfire stuff would make your car look even more stunning than it already does.
