i got 523fwhp and 350ftlb at 1.3bar.

i have nearly same spec.

No, that was at 1.45 bar mapped by perfect touch. You could see the map wasn't ideal from the AF readings, but the turbo wouldn't boost any more.

All figures quoted are hub figures.

I've got photos of the dyno plots from Mike and James - I'll check them later and post up the details.

From what I remember Mike's was ~375 at the Hubs (ie 400-ish flywheel bhp) and James's car was making 477 at the hubs, ie roughly 500-520bhp at the flywheel with 360 ft/lbs of torque.

Great to see both of them run - hope Mike got back home OK with the dead alternator.

Ben

A big thanks is due to Jon and the guys at TDi.....it was a great day!

For the record my car actually made 392 BHP and 355 ft/Ib and the wheels. My alternator packed up on the day which resulted in having to run the car with a very low battery, so low it cut out after it's runs! Not such a big problem we thought until we see just how lean the car had run thanks to the fuel pump not flowing as a result of the battery feed! It could have cost the engine #-o Thank god Rogue build them strong! :thumleft:

I had a good chat with Dave Rowe today who explained that the Motec would have pulled the ignition etc as a result so power would have been down 20+ bhp. So not bad considering it wasn't tip top :)

I'll have it sorted soon enough and get it over there for another run, if I ever get away from work again :(

Take care all,

Add a conservative 15% to 477 hp at the hub and you get 548.5 bhp at the fly and that wasnt running too good....

Big shout out to TDI - professional, helpful and very very good. Cannot believe how clean their workshop was, would have been better to my KFC off their floor then the back of my car.

I got 104.2 at the hubs - not bad for a AW11 with exhaust and gash air filter modifications only. That and the 198,000 on the engine!

Also scored a respectable 129.6 db with Scott Barton's decibel meter, think I could get more if I actually broke the redline properly.

Was a good day nice to meet everyone (sorry I didn't sya goodbye Ben, but had to dash) there were some nice cars there and once again I got my hands dirty sorting cars (heaven!!).

i was the one in the dark blue mk1 that stalled while reversing and yes it was twice before anyone point it out and thanks to the one that sorted out my car but i forgot your name but you know who you are

Hope it sorted your hesitation idle out, was really just a tidy up, happy to do it. YOu have a remarkably clean engine bay there!

So all in all a good day, can't wait to see the videos, loved the fact mine now flames, next time I will beback with bigger engine, bigger BHP and more FLAMES!!!!
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

Its difficult to estimate a @ the fly figure so that's why Hub dynos are good - you can compare outputs directly between cars.

When I've done Dynos in my old mk2, a typical %age loss for Gearbox and Tyres was around 17% across all the different types of rolling road dyno I did.

What proportion of that is gearbox vs tyre is difficult to estimate, but ~10% is likely to be gearbox in our 2WD cars.

This would give ~520flywheel bhp - but either way, we're splitting hairs here - with over 500BHP James got a very impressive figure from his car.

Just looking at the photo I took of his plot - it looks like the redline was also raised to 8k which gives the car a powerband of 6-8krpm, which at 2,000rpms wide is big enough to ensure you don't drop out of the power band when you shift gears

Didn't come on boost till 5.5k revs lol. The power then went pretty much vertical up to 6.5k then evened out. Would love to feel that on the road (or strip)

The noise when the screamer pipe kicked in too was insanity!!

Interesting to compare this run with the last one at Perfect Touch.

Image

At 6k rpm, PT RR shows 200 hp but this run shows about 420 hp. :-k

I would tend to believe the hub dyno.

James,

Pic I took of your Dyno plot :

Difference looks to be that Perfect Touch only gave you values every 1,000 rpm.

We did chat briefly and you did mention that Perfect Touch had problems strapping your car down - I guess those Snow tyres on 225/50 R15 rims were struggling with the 500+ bhp though them :)

Was funny seeing a 500bhp car on standard wheels hehe.

I wanna thank JonB for organising the day...great meet, Tiamat and Ant for lending a helpful hand...sorry Ben forgot to take my mugshot...

Nice seeing familiar faces again too. The guys at Tdi were really friendly too...

Ben,

I didn't have a mug shot taken either, was that only for the higher power car owners? If not I could mail one over to make the article more complete?

Silver paint work handles motorway dust pretty well tbh but a polish, seal, and 4 waxes should sort you out   :eye:

Heh, I got a pic of Malcolm so it wasn't just owners with high powered cars who got their photo taken - cars with green wheels also worked ;)

If you do have one and a scan of your plot, mail one over - I wasn't expecting to take 'official' photos on the day as someone from MR2 Only was going to do that but they dropped out and I ended up taking some instead.

So, for those that I didn't get a picture of - if you can PM me with your email address I'll drop you a line and if you can then return me a photo and ideally a scan of your dyno plot that'd be great.

You need to have QuickTime plater installed, or something else that can handle MP4 format.

You can right click the links and save as if you want a copy of them on your pc.

My vids are uploaded to my webspace, youtube would probs be your best bet for uploading.

I just get a blank page with the error icon in the bottom left of the page saying error on page.
I can howevery watch all the other vids?
