[Mk2] [Generic] Modifying the 3SFE?

Post by give_me_the_world »

Ok, im basically stuck with a mk2 rev1 mr2 with the 3sfe engine :pale: and majorly want to know what i can do to get a bit more power from it. I was told an engine swap (which i might do further down the line) but just looking for anything to push a bit more power from it. :cyclops:

mmm...its not really worth you wasting your money mate for a few extra horses. maybe an ecu change and map with exhaust and filter would give you an extra 20 bhp but for 2k you could easily get a turbo transplant and have 1k change thrown back at you for a nice new exhaust/airfilter/intercooler/dumpvalve etc...

sorry :(

Yeah i wouldnt sink too much into it, although 2k for a transplant isnt too bad. Mines a manual and was more or less thinking about going for the 3sge...but from looks of it i might be safer just buying another '2'

Stick a V6 in it. Best thing you can do with a cursed car.

a guy on here called goldy (iirc) supercharged a 3sfe a few years ago. maybe worth seeing how he went about it.

if you were serious about getting some more grunt out of the car, you could throw a rotrex in place of the ac compressor, with some clever piping keep the afm in place probably using old tubby piping and or samco fittings add a unichip or similair and map it all for about £1k

About 36bhp, and if you get overtaken by Micras, you have the 3S-FE

Having had a 3s-fe and two turbo's now, i can probably offer a bit of insight.
I did my usual trick of buying something, then reading up on it. Hence i ended up with a 3s-fe.
I spent the first six months annoyed i didnt get the 3s-ge - until i drove one. The performance is very similar upto about 5.5k revs at which point the 3s-fe starts to run out of steam (if anything the 3s-fe was a little bit torquier low down). I was very underwhelmed with the "extra" performance of the 3s-ge and i doubt the car would be any great degree faster point to point.
In short, i wouldnt spend any money trying to get to 3s-ge performance.
Sell it and get a turbo, or do a turbo transplant, or be content with what you have got.

It looks like a nice clean car....... Keep the standard exhaust and filter on there (You dont want people to hear how hard your trying) Get some nice wheels on there, lower it, Pop a nice stereo in and simply.....Cruise :afro: :sunny:

Unless your into fast driving then simply sell and buy a tubby/v6.

i made the mistake of buying a 3sfe as my first mr2 as well, after the conrod escaped through the side of the block i did a turbo transplant did all the labour with help from a mate and had change from a grand and thats including a new exhaust. iv also got an mr2 with the 3sge engine and its just not the same as the turbo, only thing try and get a rev 3 turbo as these are stronger mines a rev 1 still ok though :thumleft:
