Using mine and my sisters limited french vocabulary (and a dictionary)
I have translated the letter to go something like this...

Hello,

My name is Jean-Christophe MOREAU, I am the vice-president of Club MR2 France. First of all allow me to send you all my wishes for this new year. At the time of the last 24h of Mans, I passed to see you with the castle, and had made me visit you the places. This year, rather than going to the camp-site of Ecommoy, I will like to bring the members of my Club on your premise. We would like to settle close to our English counterparts of the 3 English groupes/clubs * represented I think by Michael Sheavills. Usually we are between 5 and 10 cars. But I think that so some remain all the same in Ecommoy, we could count on 5 or 6 cars. Could you give me the availabilities of your camp-site to accomodate us, and especially which is the limiting date of reservation, because I imagine that you will be very solicited like every year. By thanking you in advance for your answer.

Speed ferries currently have a 20% January sale on at the moment. So if this is the case you should get you return crossing for £48 which is an absolute snip!

I had a reply back from domonique today confirming my stay at the chateux.

I booked my general admission tickets to le mans (I don't trust buying on the gate) and a white reserved car park space yesterday.

All booked up now as far as i'm aware. I'm booked in with the hotel in maidstone. I have breakdown cover, travel insurance and car insurance sorted out.

Michael, have we decided whether we will be extending the trip again this year? Will need to book a couple of extra days off work and extend the ferry crossing if we are. Cheers,

Pete.

Pete

Susan and i are going to be staying on in France and not crossing back till the friday and i believe Michael is too. So we will def do something else. We are catching up with Michael & Joanne in a couple of weeks so we can get out heads together and come up with some ideas. But book the extra days you know you want to.

Mark

I thing the Grandstand tickets were about £150-£180 last year.

My personal thought is its not worth it as you do move round the track but others may have different thought and i suppose you do have a seat if you want to go for a kip in the middle of the night. I think Michael and Joanne were the only ones to have last year.

last year we all did the excursions in the cars so i think you could give them a miss but again up to you. Michael has been so many times he can take you anywhere and thats speaking from experience.

Right, was just about to book the ferry (finally! Finally have a CC that works!!!)...
When are you guys coming back on the Friday? Do you mind if I join you on the extra days? That makes it two weeks in France, right? Any ideas where you'll go yet? (Just so I can work out extra costs etc to see if it's viable)
If Sasha does come, I may have to drop her off at an airport or something as I don't know if she can book the extra days off work...

Max

You are more than welcome to come

We are returning on the Friday the 20th of June at 1.30pm

Last year we drove back up to Belgium but no firm plan yet of what we are doing this year but nice to have a bit of time after the race.

Seems to be a few staying on now so should be good.

Shane,

We booked flex tickets for the ferry so we can change our return ferry to the friday 20th June at 13:30 if needs be. It costs £10 to amend our booking though so will wait until you and Michael say that is the definate crossing time that we are taking. Let us know,

Cheers Pete and Reema.

Markiii,

We didn't bother with the grandstand tickets last year as they are not cheap. We won't bother this year either cause it was more fun to walk round the track seeing loads of different view points etc. The grandstand tickets are worth it however if you are wanting to see the beginning and the end of the race as thats when it gets busy and a good view point becomes hard to find. If you do opt for the grandstand ticket then make sure you find out off michael which one is best to get as some have big screen tellys in front of them etc.

Regards, Pete and Reema. :thumleft:

Usually it's hot and sunny and everyone gets burnt and/or tanned. However last year it rained a lot and although was still fairly warm it was also wet. I recommend you take a rain coat. It also got a little chilly at night too so take something warm for the evenings. The alcohol will help though.

 I'm praying for a hot year this year

Just to recap the last few pointers.

Grandstand tickets are around the £135 each mark, last year they were a godsend as the weather was crap. If you really want to see the pre race build up, the actual start and the finish then a grandstand seat is advised. I'm not saying you won't see all this if you don't buy a grandstand seat its just you will have to stand for a few hours before the race to get a good viewing spot. One year we did this in 100 degree heat, we stood for 3 hours before the race on the bank just befoe the chicane at Dunlop, was worth it but very uncomfortable for a few hours. It really is entirelly up to you if you want to do this. If you do decide you want grandstand tickets contact me and I'll advise on the best grandstand, theres 16 just on the start/finish line!

Don't bother paying for organised excursions to Arnage/Indionapolis, Mulsanne, etc. If you do then you are committed to be on the bus at cetain times so you are dictated in a way by the tour companies. It's reasonably easy to get around the circuit, I probably know every small back lane around their, but I did learn from my errors, remember some of the public roads are closed during the race and practise so just be careful, make sure you take maps of the local area. Best time to get around is at night, about 3am - 5am as its a lot quieter. Its absolute mayhem during the day and the traffic right up till about 2am around the track is nuts! ( remember last year when we all got split up and then stuck in the mud in the car park at Virage Porsche Curve ) Oh those friendly, helpful French gate workers, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weather - well 2001 was wet, 2002 was ridiculously hot, 2003, hot, 2004 hotter, 2005, nice and hot, 2006, normal, warm, 2007, em wet and, em wet!! Generally it gets really hot during June, in 2002 the start was delayed when the tarmac on the finish straight started melting, crazy. Its always warm but the rain is unpredictable and can be troplical at times. Like Pete said the night times can get cold and a bit damp so a nice TOYOTA or MR2 hoodie will do the trick nicely.

Staying on in France is definately happening, coming back on the Friday for sure. Now what do you want to do? give me some input. I'm hooking up with Shane and Susan later in the month so we certainly will come to some sort of decision as to what to do. Bruges last year was the cherry on the cake and really did make the holiday, not to mention the 1litre jugs of blonde beer, hik. Remember you will be nackered by then with all the shinanigans in Le Mans so nothing too strenuous please.

More updates soon.

White parking still available from Just Tickets but GET THEM NOW

Bit of info about spectating

This was the view from our grandstand seat. You can see all the pits from here on the other side of the track. You can also see the cars go round the bend and up and through the Dunlop chicane. Theres also a giant TV screen right opposite. The name of this stand is CHINETTI 15
Image

This is a great place to spectate, just before the bends @ tet rouge, fantastic view.

Gets really busy here but worth putting up with, the Dunlop chicane, good spot to take pictures.
