Three main areas he needs to check.

Details below are from my AE101 engine, but the AE92 one is very similar, though some of the colour codes are different.

If hes unsure of the pinout on the ECU, the names of the pins are printed on the circuit board

1)

Main power connector

this is the 4 pin grey connector below the engine bay fusebox.

On the MR2 this connector has two power cables from the engine loom which come direct from the alternator/battery

+12V line, the black/white starter wire, and a blue/? One which goes to the engine bay fan.

This is the equivalent main power umbilical from the AE101 loom

- normally this would feed power to the various fuseboxes outside of the engine bay, as the engine loom included the engine bay fusebox.

However I've hacked the Corolla fusebox up, so all that remains is the fusible link block, so this umbilical now feeds power to the MR2's engine bay fusebox via the grey connector.

The thick white wire comes direct from the alternator

- the thinner one used to come via the Corolla's AM1 fusible link, but has been reconnected on the feed side of the fusible link block instead, so is also a direct feed from the alternator

( the MR2 loom has two similar wires feeding the fusebox that are joined within the loom

).

Black/Orange is the power to the ignitor and injectors from the ignition switch, and the black/white wire is the starter wire from the ignition switch.

The starter wire connects directly to the same colour one from the MR2 umbilical

( grey connector below fusebox

) while the bk/or one is patched to the output from the engine main relay via the Molex boot connector.

2)

Fusible link block

- the ABS one has been removed, leaving just the one that sites between the alternator and battery in the engine loom.

Alternator side of this connect to the two white cables in the power umbilical above.

3)

The hard bit

the Molex connector in the boot

Looking at front of the connector, 3 large pins down middle designated A,B, and C while the 3 pins across the bottom are designated D, E, and F.

Smaller pins are designated 1

16 in 4 rows of 4 left to right.

The intermediate empty rows on the connector are ignored, as are any pins that aren't connected.

1

-

+12V from Inj relay to injectors, Bk/W

- not needed as the AE101 uses a common feed for injectors and igniter, and I'm using the igniter feed for this.

I may use this one to power the chargecooler water pump.

3

- Oil pressure gauge, Y/Bk connects to Y wire from AE101 pressure sender

4

- Engine check lamp, G/W

- connects to R/Y wire from AE101 ECU 22P connector

6

- Alternator, Bk/Y

- connects to Y from alternator

7

- Water temp gauge, Y/G

- connects to Y/G wire from water temp sensor near dipstick

9

- G/R wire doesn't connect to anything

10

- Permanent

+12V to BATT connection on ECU, W/R

- connects to R/W wire from 22P ECU connector

11

- Vent fan warning light, Bl/W

- stays as part of AW11 boot loom

12

- Speed sensor, V/W

- connects to V/W on AE101 loom.

Also stays connected to vent fan ECU via AW11 boot loom

14

- Fuel Pump from circuit opening relay, Bl

- Bl/Bk wire from relay

( I need to check this one

) and FP pin in diagnostic socket

15

- Stop light switch, Bk/W

- connects to G/W from ELS1 on ECU

16

- Tachometer, Bk

- connects to Bk wire from igniter and IG- on diagnostic socket

A

Not used

B

-

+12V from Engine Main relay, Bk/R

- to Bk/Or wire on engine bay umbilical, feeds both igniter and injectors.

Also connected to Bk/R on engine loom

( used to go to AE101 EFI relay

) to give switched

+12V to ECU.

C

- Alternator, Y

- to R/Bl wire from alternator

D

- Idle up diodes, Bk

- to Bk wire to ELS2 on ECU

E

- Earth on rear loom, W/Bk

- will be used for various ECU Earths, also connects to vent fan ECU

F

- Vent fan relay, remains as part of AW11 boot loom, Bk/G

Ive also got a load of spare wires from the engine loom that are next to the ECU plugs

I assume these are for things like lights etc as they arent needed for the engine to run.

Hope this helps
