don't mean to put a dampner on things ,but my mate had a problem with his rev2 ,had overfuelling ,stalling, erraitic rev counter plus some others including a fuse blowing everytime he tried to start the car .

His case was the wiring loom going into the boot from the engine bay was all cracked ,from years of heat i suppose .and water had got in causing more problems .we could replicate each problem in turn depending on how we wiggled the loom .
We replaced his entire engine loom for a good one ,and all the problems went away

Pretty much the same response as a few of us have said now. Get the lot re-loomed, it won't be much more than doing a few wires as whilst the leccys got it all undone it won't take much more time doing the rest.

You say you have checked earths ?

Check the main ECU ground cluster that are bolted to the inlet manifold near the alternator (Remove / Clean and refit tight). Also the two small grounds that plug the chassis to the gearbox and head cam wheel end.

I have checked/cleaned the earths on the inlet manifold but not the other, I will have a look, thanks

Leaving her at a garage again on monday for a week as she needs a new mot.

Modules and coil have been replaced thanks.
When I play with the loom there is no change. Although I'm not going to rule this out just putting it on the back burner.

Still not having much luck, drove 100 miles the other weekend with no problems so got very excited and thought it was fixed. No such luck.

Today I'm replacing some relays, and when taking the dash apart noticed where the after market boost gauge has been fitted in the standard location, they have had to solder a few wires on the busses on the back of the unit that has the clocks in.

These wires are not the boost gauges lighting, they are just small wires joining one part of the bus to the other.

I was wondering, if the bus to the rev counter was damaged when fitting this gauge could this cause the problem in having. As the first thing I notice is the rev gauge dies as if it has been unplugged. This braking a circuit causing the engine to start being unresponsive?
Or am I just sounding mad now?

I have set my turbo timer to show volts, the car constantly (even when I have the problem) is running over 14v, so can’t see it been a problem with the alternator.
I also connected my battery up for charge after struggling home, and it said fully charged.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.

The garage did not find any wrong again.

hi, don't know if its been suggested.
does your mr2 have coil packs??? As this sounds like the probs we've had with coil packs going down on cars before now???? usually one per 2 plugs so they will cause a misfire, but when they are starting to go can be intermittent, so might be worth a check????
