That beautifully clean suspension reminded me of Gun Metal Grey when I first bought it!

It is a shame they never officially brought the Supercharger to the UK, there have been a fair few low mileage n/a cars for sale this year, pity there will never be a few 30,000-40,000 mile Superchargers around 3-4k if it had been introduced to the UK. Probably makes SC a more appealing prospect though.

It really was a stunner! everything as it should have been, no respray!
It came second at the 2004 meet that was the 20th anniversary for the mr2's, even though my dads car had not had a respray throughout it's lifetime, as the winner had, my dad lost because he didn't have a Toyota battery.
Now how can that be right!!!

If you had two identical cars, one completely original, the other restored, and they were both of the same standard/condition/finish, I'd give the prize to the restored one. It takes a lot more effort to restore a car to 'new condition' than it does to just store a minter in you garage, and effort should be rewarded..... IMHO :)

think I would disagree here Jon its hard to keep a car in perfect original condition, money can buy you almost anything
originality can never be reproduced

original and restored are two different things and should be judged as such

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's easy to keep a car in perfect original condition, but if it's driven 20 miles a year, kept in an air-conditioned garage and well maintained, that's a darn sight easier than stripping off every component, cleaning/plating/painting/polishing them, then re-assembling.

I like to see cars where people have put loads of work into them, and I always appreciate the effort (even these daft £50k ICE installs in Nova's, I don't like them, but am impressed by the work/craftmanship). A completely original car, than's un-touched apart from looking after it well doesn't do anything for me I'm afriad....

... now if I was BUYING a car, I'd prefer the original one over the restored one, but that's different.

Howdy folks. The car in question is now my Father's(Barrie Taylor). Nigel who owned it beforehand put one hell of alot of work into restoring it. We have over 300 photos of the job. He either powder coated, electroplated or used stainless steel fittings all over the car and it does look stunning - it's even shiny and red underneath. That's why we left the trim off inside the frunk. You can see the heater pipes neatly attached with plated clips and the powder coated radiator.

Agree on the wheels though - not really my choice either but thats what it came on and it's amazing how quick you get used to them.

It gets driven fairly regularly too but only when there is no rain, not because of problems with rust, it's just a bu88er to clean underneath it!

I actually had the wheel off the other day to inpect the pads and disks as we had a scraping noise coming from the front left.

So I jacked the car up, took the wheel off, took the caliper off then the pads. Had a good look around and put it all back together only to find my hands were just as clean as when I started. If anything I put marks on the calipers!

I really is a joy to work on compare to my other Mk1's.

I think it depends on what peoples opinion of Best Car is.

For some it's a clean original car, others it's one with a customised paint job and others it's restored but not standard.

As I said I think the wheels let it down but to be honest whilst the accolade of best car is good it's not what we are after and also do not really deserve. Nigel put the effort into restoring the car, we just bought it off him. Anyone can do that.

Maybe in a few years when a few thousand miles have been covered and bits need doing to the car but it still looks as stunning we may 'deserve' acknowledgement for work we have put in.

Besides, the whole point of the car for us is to at last own an MR2 that we do not have to spend 10 hours a week maintaining like the others in our possesion.

And who knows one day I may be able to convince my Father to put original Mk1a (or b or even Mk3) wheels back onto it.

I agree with the wheels, i don't think that they look right on the car, i think it needs tidy mk1a's back on it, all that effort into getting the car back to original, without the proper wheels seems a bit of a waste of time to me, eveyone to their own but i prefer the 1a's to b's.

while I'm a fan of standard wheels there are some exellent quality aftermarket ones that woold compliment the MK1s lines
the ones fitted to this car (assuming we are all talking about the same car!!!! dont think we are though) dont do anything for it at all
