I must admit i was a bit pi$$ed off with the way a mk2 tubby that he told me was standard left me when we where side by side doing about 70 on the way to JAE.
I know the sc is for instant speed and might pull ahead from a tubby from the lights but i have the fensport pulley,so i thought i would have given him a bit more of a go :(
People on here have told me before to stick with my sc se as it is but it's not a standard se anyway! Mine has a very good shell and most of the parts that need to convert it, eg, lsd, uprated brakes and suspension, along with an sc gearbox that will be fully reconditioned.
Maybe i will be phoning Paul Woods, afterall :)
Spend the money on the conversion rather that getting a Supra, that i was thinking of!

Yeah the scs even with pulley (I have the fensport pulley) are still not that great after 80mph (they are still fast and keep on acclerating, even up hill) but run out of legs a bit after that compared to it's low end acceleration, but thankfully my days of 'racing' over speeds of 90mph+ are behind me at those speeds a lot of "normal" cars can keep up with or pass the SC due to engine sizes or whatever.

Which is why I love the SC because for me it's all about upto legal road speeds, just getting there faster and the SC is very fun to drive fast in this way (as you say 'instant').

A mint-ish stock SC is to be cherished imo, but if you've already gone to town then I can understand the thirst for more power, and the looks of the mk1 can easily pull of more power without looking like an overkill cruiser (calibra tubby engine in corsa for ex).

My money would probably be on the V6 cos they normally sound pretty nice (my other car is a v6 but not as fast as my SC) and smooth, to get that in a mk1 would be very nice. I'm not much of a fan of Blow off valves either. However it seems the 3sgte swap is easier than a V6?

Had a go in Ollie's (Charged) 1.5 at JAE.... Just went up the dual carriageway and on a few roundabouts.

Even with 195s traction was no problem at all. Loads of torque as you would expect. I was worried it might feel like a MK2, but it didn't. Still seemed to retain the MK1 feel.

Kind of missed the reviness of the 4AGE, but it made up for it in other areas. Felt quick, though not like it was beyond what the chassis could handle by any means as the power came in surprisingly smoothly. Obviously its not going to have the throttle response of an SC or an NA, but i guess once you get used to it you are not going to get caught off boost for the most part. Noticed that when i booted it in third after a mk2 tubby that i got caught off boost a bit and had a little wait before it got into its stride. Overall though i was impressed with how it drove and how 'factory' it felt.

Didn't really unstick the rear end, partly because again i got on boost a bit late so the car was nearly straight rather than the power being in the middle of the corner where i wanted it. But thats probably me not being used to the car (and promising Ollie that i wouldn't drift it round roundabouts!). I can certainly see the appeal. If you want a car that is effortlessly quick and refined to boot then this works very well. Would be interesting to try it on track as that would give a much better picture of what its like as an overall package.

Cheers Ollie. :thumright:

As has been discussed before in your other thread - it would be a great shame to convert the SE SC as it is so rare.
A conversion is okay in most respects.

As for a supra - they are renowned for handling like a barge, but if you like just straight line power, the go for it. I love teh look of them but am put off by lackof cornering ability. AN example was when i overtook one or two with the MK1 NA at bruntingthorpe track day in the corners and chicanes (yes i know you are not supposed to overtake here but i nearly went into the back of them as they braked and went soo slow) and they then covered me in a cloud of smoke on the straights.

Personally and its just my opinion, i think you would be stark raving mad to convert your SE. I know you don't have the most original SE by any means, but it is the rarest and most sought after MK1, so to change what is still a capable and tbh fast enough car would be pure madness.

Mark's is on the stock pulley and in all honesty its plenty fast enough for what it is.

So what if a tubby leaves you standing on the motorway? Something that people never factor in is that the car that puts their foot down first is for the most part the one that has the advantage in terms of straightline speed.

If you want to build a mk1.5 buy an NA and convert that. Pure idiocy to convert your SE.

By the sounds of your description, the V6 (mk1.6) would be right up your street Lauren.... (same power, no lag)

As for converting an SE supercharger, its an option I suppose, but purely from a financial point of view, selling then converting a solid NA would be the way to go for me...

Yes it could be, but i don't want a mk1 i want an eight-six, so has to be NA or at a push an SC seeing as we have a spare rebuilt supercharger engine lying around. ;)

Does the V6 give any more power? Is this conversion not just going to leave you with a smooth engine that gets 10mpg?!

What you looking at, £5k for a respectable condition Hachi-Rouki (think thats right?), and I only see the point in paying that if your going drifting; AW11 faster road car.... :-k

V6 is between 185 & 220BHP depending on which engine you get. I think the MPG in the Camry approached the low 30s IIRC so in the Mk1 with a lighter chassis I wouldn't be suprised at better figures than that. As with any car it depends how you drive it, you can get about 10mpg from a 1.0 Yaris if you try hard enough.

well I have a manual SC with standard pulley and auto SC with big pulley and also building a 1.5, I have driven both the 1.5 and V6 MK1 and have to say I love the V6 as its like amore powerful SC with near linear power delivery and huge torque, my daily drive is the 3.0L Camry V6 auto which is a hefty beats but still has plenty of get up and go! Was tempted to not finish putting the 3SGTE in the 1.5 in favour of the V6 but thats for another year due to the fact I bought all the parts to do the 1.5!

And to add its farily straighforward to fit a TRD supercharger onto the V6 mmm mmm mmm

True about MPG, I guess a Supercharged V6 does sound more appealing than a n/a V6!

can't remeber the last time I had the necessity to out perform a car on a public road starting at 70mph+. I think the most ideal sportscars are ones which accelerate to 70 mph quickest. (those made by kawasaki suzuki honda and ducati).

If I had a SE and had ragged the engine to the point of non-function and a big bag of "money pit money", then it would be reasonable to convert "up to v6" but what is this desperation for another second or 2 off the 60 time? I find the sc most satisfying "big pulley-less" and am still deferring the gratification of the "NST big one" for the future when I am well and truly bored of the sc and want even more fuel consumption pain.

After all, an SE is just an mr2 with stickers, paint, seats and steering wheel, it doesn't have a SE performance enhancement or special engine so there's no loss there by chucking out the gze.

Well its what i like and its what i want i guess. I've always loved these since i was 12.

But, i would be using it on track and doing my drifting/fast driving there. Not sure that a mk1 is faster at all tbh given the eight-six's lighter weight, but there is much, much more to a car than simply how fast it is.

I was half thinking this myself! Its the styling more than anything else that makes a SE special and all that will still be intact, just with extra performance. It is after all a Toyota replacement engine that goes in, not some abhorrent thing from outer space (or a different manufacturers bits and pieces......!)

If you have a tight 4AGZE engine, thats worth about £500 cashed in, and that will be put to good use converting a n/a. Its a win win!
