But are you using te water elbow/thermostat housing to lift the engine? Where are your lifting hooks, removed for weight/access?

No - i put the strap round it to steady the engine whilst the gearbox was put on. After that the strap was put round the gearbox

Re: My MR2 - the dark destroyer
Another slow day today... oil drain was a pain due to lack of space with the manifold design. Then the down pipe was out by some 3" - after lost of cutting and welding it fits like a dream now.
Should be starting her up tomo all things being well!
These turned up today too....
Fuel system finished

Cheers guys - David, ill take you for a spin when i see you next
Here is a vid link... this was after the oil pressure was built and the plugs fitted. It was the first time the car was started - you can see from the smoke but it went on the first crank!

Re: My MR2 - the dark destroyer
Nathan, are you planning to replace the jubilee clips for something more substantial once it's assembled properly?
I've seen one too many hoses pop off in the first 60ft at TOTB, a few Mikalor clamps would only add a tiny amount of cost onto the overall build budget
Great to see it up and running though, looks like a well planned and executed build with plenty of potential

Passed with flying colours (ofcourse!)
Had a slight drama though..... an oil leak appeared and seemed to be getting worse - around the std oil cooler. I couldnt believe it! It was dripping onto the exhaust and making a terrible smell (along with a mess!)
Got it back into the workshop and after close inspection i could see spatters of oil coming from what looked like the dipstick tube where it bolts to the thermostat housing
Removal of the dipstick tube revealed a crack just under the bracket weld which was causing the leek! Fitted new tube and hey presto... no more leeks!

Re: My MR2 - the dark destroyer
Well it was mapped today.
Things went really well. Was done down @ race shack on their mustang dyno.
Ended up with 390 @ wheels @ 27 psi on pump fuel and 502 @ wheels @ 29 psi on C16.
The figures were Much lower than i had expected but the race shack guys said that their dyno reads REAL HP not you lovely dyno jet corrected ones. We figured that with a dyno jet correcion on race gas your looking between 570-600 @ wheels so its good.
The drive home was fun - the car is insane to drive between 4,5 - 8 k and seems so much quicker than the previous setup. Cant wait to get on race gas and run @ TOTB!!
The guys @ race shack are well into their drag racing and have a program that can calculate a 1/4 miles time of a car and mine came out a 9.84 with everything perfect (which it never will be) so they seemed to think mid 10's should be achievable which would be grand!
Thanks to Race shack & Lyndon for the good work
See you on sunday!
Nathan
