MK1: Retro Rides Show - Mallory (weekender/camping)

Post by mr2mk1chick »

Retro Rides
Mallory Park, Leics.
10th-12th August

http://www.retro-rides.com/

Retro Rides is a brand new show for this year, and is already looking to be a great camping weekender. What is a ‘Retro Ride’? Well this is taken from the show website:
“Very broadly it covers the numerous marques of classic and modified classic cars. The cars are generally a peoples car of some sort, rather than an out of reach sports car, or they are an under appreciated classic. Some will be returned to factory spec, some may have a natural patina and others will be modified (either aesthetically, mechanically or both). More often than not they would be what most people consider budget classics - above everything else the Retro Ride Show is about a love of cars!”
So as you can see, I think the MR2 MK1 will fit in perfectly here in any guise – concourse or modified.

What’s on:

Friday the main gates open for access to the campsite but not the main show area (I plan only to camp on sat night, weather permitting!).

Saturday the main gates open at 9am, and if you plan to be on the club stand then please get there early (before 10am is best). Saturday is the main show day with activities till midnight! There is a RWYB-style sprint race competition using a section of the Mallory circuit, but I am still trying to clarify details such as cost/helmets/driving license etc for this (maybe check the website for updates or contact me closer to the time if you wish to compete in this). There are guest speakers and car demos on track, a trader village, for sale area, soap-box-derby race down the Mallory hill, a mobile Rolling-Road, a remote controlled car race and display area, and a marquee & bar till late.

Sunday will see the VSCC vintage race meeting on the circuit, plus a special selection of Retro Show Cars on display.

Advance tickets can be bought on-line (www.retro-rides-show.com) or phone 01455 842 931, before 6th July, at a reduced price: £25 weekend (inc. free camping) £14 Sat, £13 Sun.
Tickets on the gate: £30 weekend (inc. free camping) £15 Sat, £14 Sun.

If you plan to come to the show, let me know, as the organisers haven’t released details yet for car passes etc.

Great, I'm glad you have gone with this. I'll be on the Retro Rides 'club' stand and hopefully in my Sierra, but i'll be over and hanging out on your pitch and dribbling over the lovely Mk1's :D

Brilliant hope it works out and plenty mk1'ers tag on. the making of a fantastic show, i really hope it is. ;)

The whole show is created by the creator of retro rides forum, so at a guess there will be 80+ of us with different cars, just on that stand, strange having a retro rides forum stand on the retro rides show from BL enthusiasts to Datsun fans, from MG's to old vauxhalls.

I have told the Sierra club about it, so there should be two camps of people who are usually not showing at shows like this. all the otheres are putting the word out with their similar car owning buddies, too, so with any luck its shouldbe a well rounded show of the true retro 'scene'.

LOL about breaking down, its Rover powered anyway! :P  and if thats not completed i'll be in a fiesta van  , the remaining MK1 will need too much work right now.

Be ace to see you all, i will be over for a chat. :thumleft:

if you're coming a long way it would be best to camp to make the most of it.
besides, the sat night should be good to all get together for a drink etc.

I think I'm going to be in Lincolnshire on the Friday for a wedding so will be staying there over the weekend. I'm assuming Mallory Park isn't too far away from there - I should really take a look on a map!...

Mallory is near M1 J22 or 21 (J21 is also start of M69)
I guess you may be going along the A47 into lincs and you can get onto the A47 from the A50 J22 M1 or J21a M1

Edit: t-bar89 (Martin? ), if you're heading up Saturday morning (I shall be), fancy a convoy? That way if we get lost, we get lost together... ;)

Only 5! Its set to be very good this show, seeing how much enthusiasm and ideas the organisers have, its gonna be good. very good.

Retro show at the pod was quiet compared with previous years, and i saw only one MR2, in the car park too IIRC (F reg in white - sunroof)

I hope people are saving them selves for Retro Rides show. 8)

Roll up Roll up!

I'll see you (lapping me) as i try out a 'sprint' in the van!

I've been refraining from posting to this thread as it's looking a bit sketchy for me to be able to make it too. Been pulling out of things a lot recently due to work commitments and looks like this one will be the same. Very gutted as I was looking forward to this one (looks like pretty much all the cars I love will be there!)...

Will confirm for sure one way or the other after JAE.
Sorry.
