I think some honda bashing is needed ! Does it count if I do it in a V6 Honda !!

i know. i'm just being the little devil sitting on steve's shoulder going 'buy an s2000, you know you want to'

as an aside, i am in a position to advise having owned both. i still miss my mr2 and would love to have another one as a second car, but the honda is fantastic.

the k20 does respond well to nitrous, but that's then engine in the civic type r. the f20c engine in the s2000 is unique to that car. no idea what that's like to nitrous.

there is a guy in the uk with a turbo'd s2000. i think he's got it up to 350ish bhp but has cost £20k+ excluding the cost of the car. quick though.

Bender Unit wrote:Having looked into S2k's for my better half I can honestly say they are still quite expensive - A S2k in decent condition will still come in at 15k or more. I have seen some of the cheaper models but the price is reflected in the quality. Also whilst I rate Hondas and I love the VTEC they are not trouble free and can be expensive when parts need replacing. Either way S2k or Mr2 you will have a fantastic car, except the MR2 when finished will be a total rocketship and unique.

If the K20 responds to nitrous as well as the B16/B18 does then you could slap a 100bhp nitrous system in there without issues for when you need that extra kick up the butt.

This comes as a shock to me steve.

I would say keep it all and go ahead with the build. However, I am not sure building a car like this for daily use is the right idea. Mine will be a road car but I wont be using it for the daily runs to work and shops etc. I'll buy a cheap car for that.

I have had second thoughts and aren't even at your stage yet. My first 2nd thought was when I paid a bill for £4500. Then I had to move home for work reasons and I had another. I was tight for cash until recently. Things are opening up for me now and I was well pleased. Then I realised Im going to be spending possibly another £2000 in the next 2 months and I almost gave up. For me its an ambition I've always had. I blame my dad and uncle. They were always buildind big power cars. Mainly supras and nissans. I had a plan to build a powerfull MR2 for a while.

For me if I dont do it now I probably wont get another chance to do it. I'd regret it if I didn't.

Plus right now I have a great guy who'll be building it. He's well versed with the 3S-GTE and knows his stuff when it comes to jap cars. Plus he'll more or less be providing 24hour support if things go wrong. I can rely on him 100 % For him it's going to be a show piece of what he and his company can do. Add that to the fact he is a mate and labour costs go right down. :D

I would say if it's just a matter of getting pi$$ed off with it then dont give up. It'll all be worth it in the end. If you haven't got bored of it then I dont think it is time to lose it.

I have a Honda Prelude VTi (R reg) its good over 5krpm but I missed the 2 too much so I went back. Now Im trying to sell the lude. S2K may be different as its more a sports car :)

Let us know what you decide.

Good luck to the MR2.

Whoops I do apologise …. Got the engine codes mixed. Regardless K20/F20/H22/B16/B18/B20B/D16 all respond very well to nitrous from what I have seen and heard - cant see why the F20 would be any different.

Won't be my accord, it won't drive under a 100 at the moment !!

Guess you were at the nursing home that day - eh Pops! The only reason your doing 100mph in your barge is because your slipper gets stuck under the acclerator pedal, that or you cant see the speedo through your varifocals!

Cant have been mine mate, my engine still isnt finished :(

I kind of know how you feel about the Tubby - I've been there myself - just before I sold it to buy my RX. Having said that parking is a real nightmare and I've taken to parking my RX at work (although it's on a seaside holiday in Portsmouth at the moment) and parking my Mk1 NA up in a local sidestreet.

The Mk1 NA is realtively cheap to buy, you sound more than happy to do heavy work on your Mk2 - so I'd expect you can do whatever work is needed on a Mk1 to keep it roadworthy. Mk1 bits are fairly cheap (comparatively), they're economical and are a bundle of fun on the track. Insurance is still relatively cheap for them too...... I really would have a long hard think again about a second car - It takes a great deal of worry out of working on your pride and joy and makes it a lot more enjoyable.

...if only it had a supercharger.....

Cheers,
Si.

You can't say things about Jesus in the general section, it's gotta be 'off topic'.

Incidentally, Steve, you can get a certain tool that makes installing piston rings much easier and avoids what you've just experienced.

Essentially, it allows you to stretche the ring uniformly as you try to fit it over the piston. So simple, yet can avoid a lot of heartache.

I've never actually seen one in a shop, but I know they exist because that's how mine were fitted when I was at Owens.

Thought this might help...

Didn't quite happen like that dino, believe it or not, it was the the two sheets on the ring compressor overlapping with each other on tightening up, managed to have caught the ring at the open area... - so as he was tightening it up, it was compressing the ring around one side and pushing the ring out of place at the other end.

Erm i was wholly justified in what i said. Your opinion is not warranted. If you hadn't noticed i didn't actually moderate him. I may or may not moderate someone if they break or muddy the waters with regard to posting rules. Whether or not the guy is having a bad day is totally inconsequential to this.

Think you've got it bad? Check this:-

My mate Jim spent 3 years and £20 grand  building his 5.7 V8 Spitfire

http://www.madspit.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Got it all finished except for the bonnet and a bit of paintwork, magazines begging him for a feature....caught fire on the M25 and totally trashed the interior/half the bodywork/& a fair bit under the bonnet #-o ...£6k or so to repair, insurance paid out £4.5k.

He's sticking with it - not sure if I could, but this does sorta come with the territory!
