Contemplating selling up

Post by stevecordiner »

Howdy chaps,

Well, got well and truelly pig sick of my car on saturday. Managed to break a piston ring when putting my forgies into the new shiny block and I'm starting to get to the end of my tether with my Mr2.

Trying to think of reasons not to sell all my tuning parts and the car and go and buy something like an S2000 lol!

Put forward answers below.

Edit: These are not prices - just to emphasize why I'm thinking of selling up

1) Racing rev 2 head consisting of
HKS cams 272 in, 264 ex

HKS valve springs
All shimmed up between 0.15 and 0.2 on the intake, 0.2 and 0.25 on
exhaust side.
Polished exhaust ports
Light porting on the intake side to clean up the cast
Head was professionally cleaned and skimmed
Valve all lapped in
Comes with commetic 1.8mm HG

Worth £1,000 ish

2) Bored block for 86.5mm pistons
Weisco 86.5mm pistons, teflon coated and with 8.3:1 compression ratio
Professionally cleaned and decked

Worth £600 ish

3) Greddy T67 turbo kit
Polished compressor housing
Uses a Tial wastegate instead of a greddy
Manifold has been reinforced to prevent cracking
Downpipe has been heat wrapped

Worth £1,400 ish

4) Apexi power fc for rev 2 with datalogit
Comes with IAT sensor, GM map 3 bar sensor and rev 3 ignitor

Worth £650 ish

5) Complete fuel system, consisting of
Top feed fuel rail
83lb/hr injectors (880cc approx)
Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Fuel lines and loads of fittings

Worth £650ish

6) ST205 chargecooler setup, consists of
ST205 CC
Lotus esprite uprated chargecooler pump
Modified cinquecento radiator (to make it smaller)

Worth £400 ish

7) Ross Machine Racing centre feed intake manifold
Comes with a rev 3 throttle body

Worth £650 ish

8) ZEX wet nitrous kit with 55,65 and 75 jets

Worth £275 ish

9) Aquamist 1s kit

10) Brand new greddy profec B2 boost controller

Worth £175 ish

11) Plx wideband O2 kit

Worth £180 ish

Thats about all that springs to mind at the moment lol

Note these items are categorically NOT for sale yet

Ummm.. you might need to keep these bits as your lacking a few vital ingredience :D Like ecu !! and AFM and some chopped up wires !! #-o

Well, got well and truelly pig sick of my car on saturday

Blimey, think of all the pain I've gone through with so many differents engines I've developed / fixed - you get your hands dirty with a bit of oil and throw in the towel !!

Clag it all into the car and have one of the fastest MR2's in the country !! Buy fiat Cinquichento / 5hitbox to run around in !!

So you broke a piston ring - no biggie fella just get a replacment one! Seriously it would be daft to throw the towel in after all the effort you have put in just because of a broken piston ring. I know how you feel as I have been there myself and I am starting to hate my MR2, I have had numerous set backs thanks to usless suppliers and my engine is still sitting around waiting for a few bits to finish it off.

Think about it, keep the MR2 and have a very fast car indeed or buy and S2000 and join the back of the quque with everyone else when it comes to performance. The S2k is a very nice car but wont be a patch on your finished MR2.

Cheers

Hello chaps.

Yup I know the piston ring is no biggie, just p1ssing off lol.

But when I look down that list and see over £6k in parts, then I start to think perhaps its not the best way to spend money lol.

At the end of the day can anyone show me a high performance MR2 that doesnt require significant high levels of ongoing expenditure?

I bought the car for about 4k around 2 years ago. Since then I've sunk over 8 grand into it in maintenance, respray, mods etc - just dunno if its all worth it in the end.

Modded cars are money pits, it's a fact of life - it's all worth it on those rare days when they are running 100% though :)

By all means talk about your car. But if you are selling parts they need to be in the for sale section and not here.

Lauren .... the parts arent for sale yet. Hence guide price. It was also to emphasize why I'm considering selling.

Where should I post items that arent for sale but just gauging possible interest if I possibly decide to do something?

I suppose I should put in affiliates since I paid my sub :D lol

do what i did and buy and s2000. then grin manically everytime you vtec from 6000-9000rpm and the dash flashes at you to tell you its time to change up. you'll miss the torque of the mr2, but i'm far more worried about losing my licence in the s2000 than i ever was in the mr2.

oh and accept that there's not really a lot you can do tuning wise with an s2000 unless you want to spend big money and supercharge or turbo it. not that that's a major problem as i've not yet been out accelerated on the road by any mr2 i've come across.

maybe i've been lucky.

or not as i needed a new engine after 2 months. thank god for warranties.

A friend of mine has an S2000, I made the mistake of getting a lift in it after my annoying saturday. Its not as fast as my MR2, but it feels so much better on the road, even from a passengers view.

New engine after 2 months? Was that from the oil issue I've heard about or something else?

I'm waiting to get prices back from a friendly importer I know. We'll see what they look like.

Lol !! Thats why I went and bought a boat - Accord 3.0 V6 Vtec Coupe !! Plenty of torque there O:) and same thoughts last night on the ole licence losing !! The things just so quiet to the point, you look down when cruising and your sat at 90 ! Keep it nailed and it keeps going onto 150 ( so I've been told ! O:) )!

Steve, Lauren's right- we try to keep anything with specific prices in steered towards the For Sale section.

But I appriciate you're agonising over what to do at the moment. Big work like this never runs smoothly though, you've got to expect a few bumps on the way. Should be great when it is all done though.

 Go on, buy a Roadster and Turbo it :-)

I've edited the post Ben, hope thats better.

I may've just reached a point where I think its not worth ploughing all the money into the car. Will decide when I get some prices back on S2k's :)
