Looking good so far, look forward to seeing the finished article.

Just a word of advice, get some sealant and loads of wax on the paint before yoy take it out as you're much more prone to stone chips without...

mmm nice paint job.You can see the gloss just in that poor pic.

Dont put wax on yet. You need to leave it a month or two for the solvents in the new paint to fully cure. If you want to polish it use a glaze which is designed to give some form of protection yet allow the solvents to fully flash off whilst the paint is still in the curing stage.

Always loved yellow MR2's! You made me want to go out and do the bodywork on mine now!!

Really  Not what I was told by a reputable bodyshop :?

Are you a bodyshop guru?

Not a bodyshop guru no although i have done plenty in the past but i work for Autosmart International.

Fresh paintwork takes a month or two, sometimes longer to fully cure wether its been in a low bake oven or just left to flash off naturally. The low bake ovens simply flash off the outer layer quickly to help avoid runs and allow the car to be handled quicker than would be the case if it was left to dry naturally. Whilst the paint may seem fully cured on the underside its still soft due to the solvents not fully evaporating from the lower layers.

If you put a wax straight on the fresh paintwork you can trap the solvents in especially if the wax contains polymers. This can then lead to blistering of the paint, the paint actually lifting in parts or the most common one-crazy paving.

It actually suprises me how many bodyshops we deliver to and they dont actually know this. This is the reason chemical companys like ours make finishing glaze,to add gloss, mask any tiny imperfections and protect the paint whilst still allowing it to breath. In other words its a polish that doesnt completely seal the paintwork.

Im not saying you will definately destroy new paintwork by waxing it but is it worth the risk?

Yup Leon this is all true-although mine was baked you still have to handle with care-she wont be properly cured for at least a month

And yes Its even the same a laqured cars like mine-if anything a base paint is less time for curing :thumleft:

Well last night I fitted the headlamp shrouds and covers and the engine side panels-will probably be fitting the spats tonight if I can find some tools lol.
The only thing left to go on after that are the sideskirts which are still unpainted.

I'll post pics up at the wekend-some nice daytime pics. Then once all that is sorted I can try and get her off the drive 8-[

Yes,Laquered paint takes even longer because you have more coats of paint hence more solvent to evaporate.
