[Mk2] [NA] Electric Aerial wire

Hey guys,

The previous owner made a complete botch job of the stereo wiring which I am trying to sort out.

The only thing I have left to find is which colour wire activates the electric aerial to go up...the one which I believe connects onto the blue of the ISO connector.

Any help appreciated

You were half right, or three quarters. Anyway, the colours you mentioned were correct, although they are both +12v and both have to be live for the aerial to raise, if either goes to 0v the aerial retracts.

Seems pointless but there must be a reason!

The original Toyota CD/Radio had two outputs for the aerial so that was all OK. But some head units only have one aerial wire which isn't much good.

If yours has an AMP REMOTE wire you can use that. The green/black and pink/blue wires need to be connected to the AMP REMOTE and ELEC AERIAL wires from your stereo.

Aerial wire goes to green/black
Amp wire goes to pink/blue

Hopefully when its on, you aerial goes down when listening to CDs but it activates when the radio is used.

If this doesn't work or you don't have an AMP wire, try this

Connect the AERIAL wire to the PINK-BLUE.

In the boot, take the loom off the aerial and find the RED-WHITE and BLACK. Splice into them and bridge them so they are connected. Put the loom back in. Now when your stereo's on your aerial is permanently up, regardless of whether you have CD or radio on.

You can fit a switch inline and install it on the trim surround if you want to control it manually.

I had a look at the back of my stereo and the pink/blue cable is connected to the blue output from my stereo, however looking at the plug that goes into my aerial I don't have red/white and black wires, instead I have the below:



This is as you look at the plug from the front.
The car is a UK Mk2 Rev 1 NA
Can anyone tell me which wires I need to connect/bridge to make it work please?

I'm at work right now so can't check but I think, there is the loom that plugs into the aerial. Then there is a smaller loom which goes to the relay. Its on this loom that you need to do the bridge across the red-white and black wires. For some reason this small loom has different colour coded wires in it

Thanks, in that case I guess I need to know where the smaller loom is too then

This is what you start with (out of the car obviously). See where the loom is, the white plug, thats where your car's loom connects, from there on its different colours That goes to the relay black box on the back of the grey metal frame. You can unplug that piece of loom while the aerial is still in the car but can be fiddly to get back into place as you're working blind.

Anyway thats the little wiring loom that needs the bridge doing

Ah, IC.
So is there any reason why I can't just bridge the corresponding wires on the car loom? After all, it would be easier to do than take the aerial back out after I have only just put it in

I don't know why, but it doesn't work that way, I've tried it along with a couple of other people. Thats why I ended up doing it the way I did. Its not hard to do, just a bit fiddly.

*EDIT* Sorry I thought you meant the loom behind the stereo, I assume you mean the loom at the end where it plugs into the aerial? It might work, have a pop at it!

I am guessing that bridging the car side of the loom is just the same as doing it the aerial side.

Tried a temporary bridge between the two on the car side of the loom, and that works fine. Then had to spend 20mins with some WD40 getting the serial to fully extend (was described by passer-by as "playing with my rod)
