Hi Oddshoes,

You mean something like this? :mrgreen:

Image

Don't do it, just don't.
=; =; =; =;
It looks bloody good, but it took me 100's of hours of hand sanding. If you do go ahead just do the aluminium and paint any steel. Polished all the steel on my car as well as the aluminium but it rusted through the lacquer, and that included all of the brake components as well as the engine.

As to doing it just start off with 80 sandpaper, then 120, then 180, then 240, then 320, then 400, then 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1200, then rubbing compound, then t-cut, then finally autoglym.

Have a life, don't do it, just drive it.

BUT, if you've got the money buy a second set of aluminium components and pay someone else to do it (not me though).

If you're only doing things with simple shape / form like the intercooler pipes then ebay has some people selling half decent polishing kits.

I got one for less than £20 with 3 different grade polishing mops and a couple of different abrasiveness compound sticks.

It still take a lot of work mind, that grained finish on the main turbo / intercooler took ages to be filed / sanded down.

As stated above anything with nooks and crannies etc will be too complicated.

I did mine over a year ago and as long as you give it a polish every couple of weeks with Autosol it stays shiny.
