Nath,me and a crowd (including my dad in his '68 Nova LOL) are going up on sunday,it would be good too see you.
I need someone to compare my turbo spec with yours, apparently mine's bigger (?) resulting (partly) in the ridiculous spool time.

Well Owen i am going to change my cv housongs late sat night - as long as they go together nicely ill be there sunday!!

As for your turbo - will be good to see what its like. The only thing is that im getting compressor surge @ anything over 1.55 bar on the road.... what boost are you running?? Im not 100% sure what the turbo sizes mean in relation to this but i would have thought the bigger the turbo the more chance of compressor surge due to the shear amount of air its pushing through??

well Andy + Michael i got down the strip on sun and despite serious traction probs from my 225 stunner tyres i managed an 11.9 @ 123MPH

Mike JC managed an 11.7 @ 119MPH on what looked like pretty much slicks to me.

Not bad for a first effort.... just wait till i get the full 1.7bar boost and some decent (barely) road legal tyres and i imagine an easy 11.5.

Michael.... just imagine what it would do down a 1/2 mile one that antique has spooled up!!!

it was nice to get in the 11's i must admit but still went away from the day feeling a bit un happy - felt there was a lot more there but just couldnt lay the power down - very very frustrating to say the least and with my stupid MAT sensor in the stock position i was getting terrible heat soak on the sensor with intakes reading 66 on the pfc after my 2nd run and not having chance to let it cool the ign was pulled my 5deg so when i did my 11.9 i have less ign too.

really need to get that sensor moved as the true inlet temps were 21deg down the strip!

I want to try and better my times with better tyres before i do anything else, try and get a true reflection on it.

Tyres are sooo important at places like Pod, but the likes of Elvington air field are much more grippy.
What clutch you running BTW??

First of all well done on hitting the 500 Nathan. That is an acheivement in its own right. And congrats on building it yourself.

However, I must agree with some of the ol' (sorry) boys on here. Up to 5000rpm it only hit 175bhp, I'm guessing that on a gear change it doesn't stay much higher than 5000? Compare that to the power a GT series is making at the same revs and I am pretty sure it will be a fair way behind. Add to that the fact that the GT will then spool a lot quicker and it ascenuates (spelling dodgy) the problem.

The 1/4 times look good though, my only explanantion is that MikeJC couldn't see the lights because of the cobwebs produced by the antique distraction device?

Good luck with the next project, why sleeve it? Get it cemented!

Thanks for the comments Jim.

In a 1/4 mile run / trackday / race your never going to be out of the power band - the engine revs to 8,250 so at best will in the world even with a rubbish gear change your still going to be well in the power band. If you caught off guard then sure a GT powered car would be outta there but in an all out race the 2 cars on different turbo's but same power would be evenly matched.

IIRC my top speed was actually quicker than Mike's but not 100% - im not sure what power Mike's is either?? I guessed circa 500?

I personally enjoy the lag - it adds to the anticipation and there is always the suprise element with a bit more reward to driving it. But that is only my opinion and i can understand why some folk wouldnt like to have as much lag.

Its all down to personal choice i guess - i have brought the spool down another 500 rpm and will be stroking the motor over the next few months so that will bring it down again but the best bit is i still know its going to be pulling like a train @ red line which i love!!

one of THE deciding factors when I plumped for a rev1 rather than a rev3! 8)

Rev1's rule!

lag is underated! :clown:

if you think a standard rev 3 is laggy you want to drive something with a big turbo on it. The standard turbo set up is sweet compaired to some the big power makes, but you also won't get 500bhp our of a ct20.

never felt the difference between rev 1 & 3 but surely there can be much in it? 500rpm at most?

And the reward at the higer revs must be much more with the ct20 - or so i've heard...

can't really tell much difference between the ct26 and ct20b low down, i only really felt the difference once above the 5500rpm where the ct26 would tail off but the ct20b wouldn't

Only diff I can think of is the CT20/rev 3 is smoother with the power delivery.

The CT26 would come in with a "bang" lol.

yeah true, i think the smoothness is also mainly down to the engine management system used. Alot of people have commented on that when moved to a gen 3 conversion on a rev 1 still using the ct26 turbocharger.
