My brother

(chriminator100) and i have noticed a petrol smell from the engine bay when stopped also.

.

.

.never been strong enough to fill the cab, but i assume this is normal.

We have a speculation that

the tubby might be running a little rich, in which case the unburnt fuel may be causing the smell.

If you run a check on your fuel consumption, you may be able to tell if any is leaking out, although, if any was, im sure you'd notice it.

Try it, fill the tank up to full, get the size of the tank, and then see how many miles it takes to get to halfway.

if you take it easy, you should

(like us) get 34 mpg approx, whereas if you decide to stretch yer legs a little, expect around 16.

Of course if there is a leak, this figure will be much less, but like i said, its not probable, if its anywhere in the engine bay, you would probably have toasted it.
