All MR2s were hand built by Toyota's Central Motor division.

Sorry Bobby - these are the only ones I've seen. I think there might be some more in the various MR2 books we've got in the waiting room. I'll check when I have five minutes.

Cheers,

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. It certainly wasn't my intention to prejudice anyones opinion. The original post requested references for NVi cars, which I responded to. As I've already pointed out, many people appear satisfied with the service, but I wasn't.

Tom,

Thank you for your response, it's always useful to hear the other's point of view. I'd just like to clarify a couple of items you raised. I originally came to look at the SMG car, but was disappointed with the paintwork. I see it's still for sale. I briefly looked at the Sonic Shadow car but thought it too expensive at £8.5k. About 6 weeks later I returned to drive the car, this time I believe at £8k but was still not convinced. A number of months later, it was still for sale but I kept checking the website as price reductions were inevitable. When you reduced it to £7k I thought that despite the paintwork problems, I would take a gamble and buy the car, knowing a decent paintshop would sort it out, even if you couldn't. When I did call, the car had been sold to someone else. If I sounded disappointed, then I was. I had decided that I did want the car since as you well know, these are extremely rare and I hadn't seen any more in all the time I had been looking. This is very different to being 'racked off', whatever that actually means.

What I don't take kindly too are random assumptions about what my thoughts were. There's no 'rub' here and absolutely no link between my negative critique and missing out on the purchase of the car. Apparently when you told me that a deposit had been left, I 'thought you were just saying it' - qudos on the mind reading skills.

I'm pleased that you've admitted the car needed work, despite it being advertised as 'mint', thanks for that. I think it's also important to point out it wasn't just the nose cone but also the whole bonnet that was in poor condition. I often think that people buying imports seem to put up with this - if you saw this on other forecourt you'd walk away.

I'll admit my faults. I am too picky when looking at the paintwork of cars I am thinking of buying. My e-mails can sometime be antagonistic.

Can you admit your faults?

Instead of making odd assumptions, I think it would useful if you looked at the points made by myself and others and thought about why they are being made. Improve the website with more photos and more details.

Your last paragraph doesn’t even merit a response, bit playground stuff isn’t it? Like when someone takes the last sweet - 'oh, I didn't really want one anyway'.

Dave,

As stated already, you asked for references for NVi. It feels as though you didn’t want to hear anything negative, especially since you have now bought a car from them. Only a small number of people have posted on this thread and there’s more than one issue been raised. Rudimentary maths shows that this is not 99.9% satisfaction.

Hello Patrick,

Sorry that these comments on a more interesting topic are buried within this thread. Your photos are new to me, I've never seen anything of the MR2 in production. I think the problem here may be the use of the phrase 'handmade'. To me it means a process with no use of automation or robots. I've checked with my co-ordinator at Toyota who worked for TMC in Toyota City, Nagoya for 8 years and under Toyota terminology, the MR2 was certainly not 'hand-made'. At least not as we would consider a Morgan, Bristol etc to be. Where did you hear that it was and what do you reckon it means?

At Burnaston, many of the process are automated, but your photos are very representative of what you can see around the plant.

The photos are:-
1) Engine hoist, still used for lifting engines from stillages to engine line
2) Off-line area, used for final inspection. In the background you can see standard production line hangars, on which a partially built white car sits
3) Weld Shop sub-assembly build
4) Press shop panel stillages, used to convey parts from Press Shop to Weld
5) As above
6) Weld Shop sub-assembly build

What I mean is, did the pictures mean to show that the MR2 was hand-made?

If you want any more information or if you'd like me to check anything with TMC, let me know.

Regards

That is kind and also thoughtful last time i saw Patrick at Rogue Motorsport
they were building a race car mr2,a track car, busy developing an engine building area, custom designing Mkejc's intercooler race turbo set up,organising an mr2 event on the phone, preparing Rogue's company mr2,running a company and also busy with my mr2 and working till quite late most evenings and if not at work or at the track or at an mr2 event.Hope Patrick has some time.

Oh just like to say a big thank you to
Rogue motorsport for excellent service and an mr2 that now drives like
a dream also at more than fair prices too. =D> :D

Lukem have you found an mr2 or are you still looking and negotiating with
dealerships around the U.K. i know the January sales are coming up in winter or have you got one now.

Best regards
Harry :D

Around 18 months later, and we're still not used to it....

Back on topic, a friend of mine was looking at NVI for this first MR2 recently and although was impressed with the stock, was put off by the pricing. Personally, I normally go on the 'Good things aren't cheap, and cheap things aren't good' mentality, so I don't mind paying a high price for something (i.e. an MR2) if the quality is good and I get the feeling that the gearbox isn't going to fall out of the car 600 yards down the road!
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

NVI is a fantastic and very professional company with very high standards and a great "family run" feel. I mean that your treated as an individual and not Another punter.

I bought my rev3 back in 2002 from Tom and was looked after very well and even offered a bed for the night as I drove down from Glasgow...just to view the car and go for a test drive. When I went down the next week to pick the car up Tom arrived at the train station in my car and it looked amazing! Sale went through smoothly, car is in great condition, although I think I have deteriorated it slightly with my driving and the Scottish weather.

Thanks again Tom for everything. Would definately buy from NVI again, especially when/ IF they get an original TRD in.

Cheers,

Michael.

 Yip that's me local resident nut nut call me what you like just pay me

Just feel that the topic going back on topic is who used or knows about Tom's service and quality of mr2's supplied at NVI period. Is the service ok are the cars ok period. Not interested in a personal thesis. If Toni.G here of Imoc gives a personal reference and from experiece of buying there and confirms all good then case closed. It's common knowledge that paint
re-acts differently to metal and plastic also that most mr2's are years old
and a good example in looked after condition is rare today and worth a mention from the dealer.

Rogue's motorsport Patrick's comment and photo's of mr2's being built in Japan highlights the good quality of Toyota
mr2's being well made and presume a certain level or amount of using hands are employed. :D

 just my 99p. you know inflation and expensive country now.

 Oh show me your'e mr2 and if it looks better than our one you win

Enjoy the rest of your'e weekend. :thumleft: :sunny: :thumright:

Another thumbs up for NVI :D

I purchased a rev2 GTS from Tom last November and found him friendly and very knowledgeable. He has since been invaluable in answering many newbie questions from coolant gurgling, power steering relay and even talked me through removing an air lock from the coolant system.

Wouldn't hesitate to deal with Tom in the future... especially when he decides to sell me his spider at a knock down price (hint hint... again!)
