NVI Cars?

Post by TRDave »

Hi.

I am thinking of investing in a rev3 from NVI and was just looking for a reference of sorts.

Has anybody purchased from them and has the experience been a good one??

i used to drive a rev1 years ago and am looking forward to getting back to tubby land 8)

Cheers

Havent bought from them myself bud but Ive seen many references on this site about them and never seen a single bitchin which, trust me, would fly around here if the reason was there. They are also an affiliate so obviously the committee has good things to say too. A reference in it own right?

I once rang enquiring about a car advertised on NVI's site. When I asked how long the the car had been up for sale he replied "What do you want to know that for?", I said "Well because if it's been up for sale for a while then it might not be in good condition", he then said "Well you don't want it then do you?", the phone call was then ended. I don't think I asked an un-reasonable question, and all I got was rude responses, due to this I stopped considering them.

mmm this is interesting.

I'm on the look out for another tubby now I've sold mine as considered nvi especially as I will be in that area in a few weeks. Thought it would be better to buy from somewhere with a reputation but if thats there customer service. Well ......

Anyone else got any thoughts? I'm not a fan of second hand car dealers as MOST are like Aurther Daily.

Visit NVI yourself and make up your own mind, Tom has always been absolutely charming to me and I got a lovely car from him. He is a bit impatient if he thinks you are dissing his stock I suspect

What one did you get?

When I was looking at 2's I visited Tom and all I can say is top bloke, I didn't purchase from NVI in the end as I found another 2 and fell in love plus 12 months warranty spun it for me.

But dont think you can go far wrong with NVI \:D/

I have to say that I wasn't particulary impressed by my experiences at NVi. I found Tom a little condescending and some comments didn't ring true at all, eg 'MR2 Turbos are all handbuilt'; Of course not true. Seemed to change tune when I happened to mention I worked for Toyota.

He also accused me of being picky - probably not a good thing to say to a potential buyer. The car I was looking at was advertised as A1 condition & it was far from that, required a full front end respray which he wasn't willing to do within the price. Car advertised as A1 but requiring respray? Trading standards?! Yes, I do look long & hard at paintwork but I certainly wasn't being unreasonable, especially since as remarked above, he was asking top money.

I was also told that even if a front end respray was done, it could never be properly blended in to other panels. Not true and I've seen proof, just needs a decent paintshop.

I've also asked recently via e-mail for photos of another car, but was told it would be too time consuming as lots of people ask for photos. Why not put more photo's on the website then?

If it's too much trouble, then sorry, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Possibly if I'd bought a car it may well have been good and I can see that other people are happy with the service, which is fine for them. I just didn't feel like buying following my visit. Sorry to be negative, just my honest opinion.

I find NVI very expensive, they charge about £1000 too much on most of their cars. Admittedly I haven't checked out the quality of the stock but I'd expect almost show condition examples for what they charge.

As a rule I don't respond to criticisms as everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don't feel it's productive to get into a you said that and I said this argument. However I really think lukem deserves a response. The car he came to look at (twice) and test drive was in all respects a very nice example of a Sonic Shadow. 44,000 miles and full Japanese service history. No dents no previous repairs. Perfect interior condition perfect diamond polished alloys.
True the front nose was not the EXACT shade of silver as the wingsand bonnet, however this is not unusual as MOST Red, Silver, Yellow and SMG cars suffer from this. My own Spider turbo is like it, as painted plastic and painted metal over time lose lustre differently. There was also a very small ding) about 2mm in dia) on one of the headlight covers, which I said would be repaired. Luke was of the opinion that this warranted a complete frontal respray which I didn't want to do as from previous experience, silver on a 9 year old car is very difficult to match exactly. What I said was that I couldn't/wouldn't guarantee a perfect colour match due to the fact that I felt Luke was going to be a hard man to please as he was/is picky. Now the rub. The reason he's peed off with me, which he hasn't mentioned, is that he rang and said he wanted the car DESPITE the above - re the paint and I gave him my best offer. He said he'd think about it and let me know. He called a couple of days later to say he'd have the car, however in the meantime I sold it (at the same deal as offered to Luke) and I could tell that he was racked off. He thought I was just saying it and asked if I had received a deposit and if the deal fell thru he'd have the car.
One last point. If I'm such a bad/difficult and expensive guy to deal with why on earth come back for pics of another of my cars?? Now the real reason behind my reluctance to bend over backwards for Luke (even though he works for Toyota) is - I didn't want to sell him a car and didn't want to be rude and tell him so.

All MR2s were hand built by Toyota's Central Motor division.

Tom obviously cares about his work enough to give a response on here.

Lets face it he has sold loads of MR2's to happy customers and it is inevitable that there is always going to be one customer who is going to be not 100% happy.

It sounds to me like going up the pub and having a gulp of your pint then asking for money off.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for and that is why i have put my trust into Tom.

The cars maybe a little more expensive than elsewherere but you are getting a warrenty and full back up etc.

I am sorry Tom has had to come on here to feel he needs to defend hiself as i was only asking for references for which 99.9% were excellent.

Cheers
Dave
