Solution is simple, remove the exhaust and drive around bouncing off the rev limiter (even when reversing from your driveway), just wait for the next complaint and then re-fit your current exhaust and resume normal driving, they'll be so happy at the reduction in noise they may even buy you a Christmas card,

Start your car and rev it a couple of times. Check the windows and see who looks out. Pound to a pinch of $hit the one who's nose pokes out around the curtains is ya man!

Turn said engine off and have a wander over to discuss the problem in a civilised manor.

If the person in question won't talk about it (or admit to sending you the latter), just make sutre your motor is fully MOT'd and don't be worrying about it. If they haven't got the balls to talk to you one to one...

Stuff 'em! :eye:

I had a similar situation where a neighbour approached me while I was getting out of my car and said pretty much that several neighbours had been discussing the racket my car makes and found it quite disruptive. However I CAN see their point of view and my car does cause passersby to excrete blood from their ears so i compromised. I assured them I'd park away from the house after 23:00 which I thought was fair as in my job I come home late at night. Since then, no complaints. Just means i can cane it more in the day time!!!!!!!

Similar thing to me..

Next door but one neighbour's jewellry box vibrates when I stat my car...she was telling me.

However, she respects tht I don't hammer it down the street.

I just drive down the street in 4th...low revs and just be sensible.

In the country roads...its a different matter!!..I can still be heard a mile away.

I tend to take it very easy when near my house! if they had come to speak to me then I would have definately sat down with them and talked to them like adults about it!

I felt the letter was blackmailing me saying If I don't change my exhaust then they are definately going to go to the police or the council. I don't lay down to threats so it really riled me. The main reason I felt like this was the way they hadn't even left a name to respond to!!

I agree with what most people are saying about sympathy to neighbours but the fact is that everyone in the cul-de-sac is fine with it as I have spoken to them and they are all fine with the exhaust as they know that I take it easy when on the way home and they are genuinely interested in my car (boring old person street) so it must be someone on the adjoining roads!!

I only rarely am out in my car after 10pm at night and rarely use it on the evening anyway, I also don't get up very early so can't see the problem. and yes I am woken most weekend mornings by noisy lawnmowers, chicken chaser moped's and circular saws. I don't write letters to these! just this saturday morning I was woken with a lawn mower going of and that was louder than my exhaust and at 7:15am I was hungover but I just dealt with it!! think there should be a bit of give and take in this!!

blimey - loads of people like the aggressive approach don't they!

I'd say either ignore it, or post some notes through doors - maybe even go door to door seeing as you like face to face rather than letters.

Even if you don't find out who it is, you'll be able to see if lots of neighbours actually think the same, but have never had the guts to say anything.

And it will also put you in a good light - show that you are concerned, but aren't really sure what could be done. I'm sure if you talk to your neighbours it'll get back to the person, and maybe say that when you need to change your exhaust next you will try and get a quieter one

Just spend an hour every evening sat on your front lawn with a crowbar in one hand, a hammer in the other chanting "I am the angel of death, purification through pain" over and over again. They will never mention your exhaust again! Or come near you!

Or have a civilised chat with them!

its been very intresting reading this thread as i curretly are suffering the same thing on my NA,

currently working shifts so im leaving the house at 5am every other week in which my next door neighbour hates it as my car is parked right under his window.

basically every time we saw each other he would come out complaining about the noise and waking him up etc.

i said theres not much i can do tbh i sneak the car out best i can in the mornings dont even touch the thottle till im out the street.
then all he asked was for me to jut not start the car till i opened the gates up in the drive so i can drive straight off.

which i agreed, not heard anything since from him hes said ay up a few times so hopefully its sorted now.

btw my NA is louder than a tubby nurspec pmsl :)

I have the RSR GTII CATBACK see
http://www.prostreetonline.com/store/ex ... _exhausts/
I was sat at the lights yesterday and a golf pulled up with 4 x 3.5" exhausts and I couldn't even hear his car on idle.

Found out since that only one of them was actually an exhaust though ](*,)

I do sympothise with these people but its frustrating not being able to go back to them! I would happily come to some arrangement with them if they just spoke to me.

Until they contact you personally then, just ignore it. You can't act because you don't know who to approach.

I wouldn't worry...
