N/a tuning

Post by Mista Weava »

i have a friend who has just bought an G-reg 2.0 N/a import.

he has the mongoose - he talks of getting it chipped, but i reckon that this would work best on a turbo car.

what are the satge 1 and 2 routs for tuning these cars?

i am guessing induction kit for starters, but where next?

budget is a constraint so looking at no more than 500-600 quid.

what are the best power/£ upgrades within this budget.

quite nice that he already has the exhaust, as this iquite an expensive item. :)

most mods on any engine will require a chip and a remap eventually as you dont want it running rich.manifolds are the most restrictive air flow part of the engine, so swapping them is nice. get a propper induction kit with a heat shield, throttle body, cams, boost valve, upgraded injectors, polished head (work around a good engine head). all these help dosnt have to be in that order. but if you mess around with the airflow and fuel you will need to chip and remap it

he seems to be a bit more inspired to spend a bit extra now.

i am thinking along the lines of induction kit, decat pipe, cams with some head work and a unichip.

sound any good?

i would (in order):

induction kit
de cat
manifolds
boost valve
injectors
throttle body
head
cams
paint your rocker (thats got to give at least +5bhp  )
hoses

you can chip it and remap it at any stage but it will have to be remapped the more mods you make. and make sure the clutch, gearbox and breaks are up to scratch. there is no point in loads of power when you cant change gear or stop!!

i think if u want some power gains then go for a turbo m8, but if u wanna do it the detroit way ! then thats fine i suppose if u prefer that, but i think the thing to remember is when messing with certain areas of the engine u need to upgrade other areas too!.

i got a Pipercross viper filter in mine it was already on the car when i bought it anyone know what the best filter u can by for the mr2 is , is the Blitz SUS a good choice ?

This is just my opinion and from what I have read, Apexi and K&N are the best in that order - for filtration/power purposes. Across the board, HKS and Blitz offer the same power gains, but filtration is not as good.

I have a K&N on my NA and its the bo11ocks! If you want K&N, get it from DCDezign.com - Dan there is a good man gives discount for IMOCers. If you want Apexi, TBDevelopment do them - they are slightly more expensive though. As for the others......... don't know!
